Which is better 8.5GB DVD or 2 disc set?

My movie is going to go around 4.7GB. I also want to add a featurette, music video and trailers as special features. I'd rather have these on one disc. Are there any issues with the bigger DVD's? I've been shopping replication prices and it looks like it adds only a tiny amount to the price. (10% more on an order of 1,000 roughly speaking.)

Is there a good reason to avoid 8.5 GB discs? (Or whatever the big ones are called. and I'm talking the single sided ones) Do they not work on all DVD players or not encode very well, or have compatability issues or stuff like that? Or are they just like the 4.7 GB only bigger?

You're referring to a dual layer. I have had no problems using those in my authoring and delivery.

As long as you're replicating and not duplicating, DL disks are fine. If you're duplicating, that's when you'll hit issues on DL.

Whats the difference between replicating and duplicating?

Replication is when DVDs are pressed at a factory using specialist machinery (each disc is "stamped" using a glass master).

Duplication is when a DVD is burned onto a DVD-R or DVD+R. It's slower and less reliable than replication but cheaper for small quanities.

Quick question: where would you be able to send your master for Replication? So far I'm fine with duplication, for small quantities and low cost.
