Which iMac should I buy?

I'm selling my MacBook pro and moving toward an iMac. I'll be using fcp for now, and switching to cs5 when I can afford it. I'm looking at the refurbished 27" models. Should I go with the previous-gen i7 or the current one for $200 more. Only differences I know of are a slightly faster processor, slightly faster clock RAM (same amount), and faster video card. I'm going to put an extra 4gb ram in as soon as i get either. Is it worth the extra $200?

Find the speed tests on Macworld for these machines, compare what real world difference in task time there is, then judge if that's worth $200.

Personally, when it comes to computers, buy the fastest you can get for the money you have, add ram and more hard drive space.

looks like they only have the speed tests for the SSD equipped newer i7, which led to a pretty large increase in speed (over 12%). 254 vs 225, but i'm not sure how much of that is up to the SSD, which isn't available on the refurb. if it's only 5%, i wouldn't do it, if it's 10% i might be swayed

If 10% more speed equates to only 10% more cost, then sure. But 10% more speed really seems almost silly. So if something takes 11 seconds, the faster computer will do it in 10.

As an owner of the previous generation i7 iMac, I'd get the new one - not for the faster chip or memory, but for the SSD option and the SD slot that accepts the newer SD format cards... new cameras have new SD cards.
