:) Hello, and welcome to my first post.

I would like to purchase a HD monitor from this company (Tiger Direct). I have purchased items from them before, and like their selection and service and prices. But, I'm a noob, so what do I know?

JVC GY-HD100U (looking to purchase in 2 weeks)

I do not have a large desk, but I think it could accommodate a 23" or 24" monitor on it, perhaps larger. I am willing to spend up to $1,000.00 (Canadian Dollars) on the monitor.

I will be using the monitor to edit HD videos created for the wedding industry.

Please have a look at the monitors on that site, and let me know which one "you" would like to get.

Thanks for reading this post, and any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Mind you, I don't own any of these monitors.

If you want a computer LCD monitor, you probably want something larger than the 19" ones. To my knowledge, 19" monitors for the most part have the same resolution as the 17" ones. I would personally go with the 21" (or 20", whatever it is) dell widescreen monitor. Should cost you about $350 US. Of course, you could go with the 24" dell monitor for about $7-800 US. It has a lot more res, but you might not need it if your doing 720p.

The other option is to get a small LCD HDTV. It's not as good as having a $3k HD broadcast monitor... but it won't be $3k. Some people were recommending the small Sony or Dell LCD tvs - around 19". I think they were about $500. I personally thought the HP 26" LCD tv was a good deal at $700ish. You won't be using these as a computer monitor, but you have something closer to tv to monitor your stuff on. The caveat for doing this is that you probably need either a DVI output from your computer and set that monitor as your full screen display in FCP. If you're not using FCP, you're on your own, cuz that's all I know.

You can also get a Kona card or a Blackmagic card or whatever that has component outs and plug that into your HD display. This adds money onto your setup so you probably wont be doing that.

To sum up - I'd get either a largish dell or a smallish LCD HDTV if you are really trying to do it "budget" style. Plug either of these into your second DVI output on your video card and set your NLE to use it as a full screen display.

If I misunderstood all of this and you just want a main monitor for your computer, just get the biggest one you can afford (the dell 24" is nice).

I bought the 24 Dell around 2 months ago and it's a dream, besides having backlight issues the monitor is top notch for its price. If you have the extra dough I'd even go for the 30 inch but the 24 inch is a dream come true.
