Which HD lipstick camera for HVX?

Hi,

I want to buy an HD lipstick camera for my HVX 200 but I am not sure which one is compatible. After finding a few mentioned I was curious if anyone on this forum is using one?

Here are 2 models that I know exist :

Ikegami HDL20
Which seems rather bulky.

This model looks like it is compatible with the HVX what do you think?

Also I can't find any prices listed, does anyone know how much these babies go for?

And how would you go about recording this to the HVX?

Thanks

These cameras are 3 to 5 times the price of the HVX; and besides, there is no mechanism for getting an HD-SDI signal into the HVX.

Holy $h!t!

I didn't realize that they would be so expensive!!

O.k. strike that question. Lets change it to:

What dv resolution lipstick camera has the best image quality for the HVX?

I have a need for some strange POV stuff and want to heavily feature it in a HD film. Any suggestions?

Thanks

The problem is what would I record the HD lipstick cam to?

Ideally I would just send the signal to the HVX. This is a ultra low budget film.

Are there any nice quality lipstick cameras avalible or are they all pretty lo-fi?

Which ones are recommended?

You cannot record a high-def video signal from an external source onto the HVX (or any other low-cost HD camera for that matter).

The Sony DXC C33P does seem like the best possible choice for an SD lipstick camera but the price tag is still a whopping $4,619.00.

Once again I will have to change my requirements. uh hum...

How about a good sub $1,000 dollar SD lipstick camera?

Heck it could even be a bullet or cube camera. Mainly I want something that I can afford to buy.

Thanks :)

At least with the Sony DXC (c33p) you were down $25,000 from the last camera you wanted. :)

I really do not know that much about small cams... what are you looking to do?
Take a look at the HVX footage section, there is a cool thread about a remax commercial. Jim Arthurs strapped the HVX to a helmet. I am not sure how "compact" a camera you really need. You might even want to look into a light weight consumer model.

I took my HVX to best buy the other day to plug into the biggest HDTV they had (LOOKED AMAZING. I recommend you take a P2 card loaded with good footage to Best Buy or any other TV store. Plug that baby into a 1080p widescreen bigscreen and WOW.)... anyhow, on my way to the TV section I passed their camera section. I guess I haven't shopped for a consumer Mini-DV cam in a while because those things were miniature compared to my HVX. I have seen some footage from those small guys and it isn't all that bad. I would put them up against a $1k lipstick camera anyday. I would look into that.

Your best bet is to tell me/us more about what you want to do. I really don't know why you want a lipstick camera unless you are making a documentary on why your kitchen sink is clogged. :)

Sony DXC-LS1/1 and a DVR

Sony DXC-LS1/1 and a DVR

Sony DXC-LS1/1 w/ a Digital Video Recorder (flash memory recorder) from Fast Forward Video in Cali (they build the recorder devices themselves). It can create QT files. We're still trying to get it approved to be mounted where we want (red tape hell), but it seemed alright in the few tests we did before hand. It is SD though.

Not sure about the costs as that aspect of production has nothing to do with me. But you can try googling those and see where you end up at.

cheers.

I do all the P.O.V. rigging for the AMAZING RACE, and many other high impact or hidden camera shows. if you want to buy a good pov cam that can record into your hvx but in sd mode would be a TASHIBA ICE CUBE . this will give you your best res but it wont shoot in 24fp, only 29.97 fps. still very expensive. next step down thats little affordable would be a sony xe 555, but res noticably different.

Has anyone used Elmo lipstick or ice cube cameras?

The MN400 looks to be of good quality, can take various lenses and costs $700.
Ideally you'd want an anamorphic lens on it so you can at least get SD 16x9 to mix with your HD footage.

I've been using helmet cam type (consumer grade) heads with a sony clamshell deck for a few years doing on-board motorcycle shooting, it works ok, but the image quality is pretty low.

It's really too bad there isn't a viable (or affoardable) HD lipstick cam system available.... Seems like they could make a small camera head without too much trouble, but a portable deck just doesn't exist yet.
