Which GLIDECAM ?

Re: Which GLIDECAM ?

Actually, Glidecam is coming out with a vest and arm for the Glidecam 4000 and 2000. I think they are calling it the "Smooth Shooter"...I have an email from them somewhere from a few months ago. If I can find it, I'll post what they said exactly. I think it was due out this month but I suspect it is delayed. I haven't seen anything about it on their site or on the Web.

Re: Which GLIDECAM ?

Okay so I talked to EVS, B&H as well as two local stores that carry the product.

I also met someone who uses the Glidecam a lot for weddings and with the FM 500 I was told the 2000 is more than enough.

The DVX100a with the 1600mah batt is 3.6 lbs. The GC-2000 can holdup to 6 lbs. He said the advantage of using the 2000 is that I can use it for longer and I'd just use the forearm brace with the side view monitor. I shouldn't need the GC monitor.

Getting his suggested pacakge is $530 as opposed to $999.85 before tax and shipping.

Anyone want to say their two bits about this suggestion?

Re: Which GLIDECAM ?

Go for it. The 4000 is just a little extra insurance if you start getting weighed down by unanticipated extras in the future.

You'll be fine with the 2000

Re: Which GLIDECAM ?

I seem to be dropping a lot of money on the dvx... and I was going to buy an ARRI SR 16mm cam...

I can never stop loving film and working with film but my DVX is my mistress on the side  ;D .

I guess when I have to buy her some 'unanticipated extras' i'mma gonna have to trade her in for a newer model.  It'll hurt and put a dent in my wallet but falling in love all over again for the first time is such sweet pleasure.

Hey if I got a cooke prime somewhere around 80mm and just use a step up ring and attach it to the lens, I'd get vignetting right?

And when using the Teleconverter, how do I use 4x4 filters?

Using these primelens w/o the mini 35, do we shoot too much into the grain of the glass?

Thanks.  How're you doing ?  CHEERS!   ;D

Re: Which GLIDECAM ?

Okay, short answers.

The prime lens will not work. There are many reasons for this but I'll not go into it at the moment.

I will see if I can take a shot of my setup with the teleconverter so I can show you how I do it with the mattebox. Basically, you are pushing the mattebox along the rods until it buffers up against the lens and then tighten the screws and it won't move.

Even though the opening in the mattebox is smaller than 105mm (the outside diameter of the teleconverter), this doesn't matter because the lens only has partial zoom and you have to be zoomed in way beyond the vignette for the lens to be effective anyway. Is that making sense?

Re: Which GLIDECAM ?

Crystal. sorry to be such a pest.

i don't have the teleconverter yet so no rush on these responsesl, thanks ;D.

I'm doing budgeting, script breakdown, coordinating the entire 9 man crew, rehearsing, working two jobs, waah waah waah. HEHE, thaks for all your help disjecta!

BTW, did you see my airplane thread before? I shot it!! I was so sick thouogh, we had to come immediately down. HAHAHA. So I have all these great shots on the ground before we took off but that was about it.

Re: Which GLIDECAM ?

I don't recall that thread, do you have a link to it?

You are not a pest at all, I enjoy our little chats :D

I'm in the middle of editing at the moment so I'm kinda popping in and out of the forum while I'm waiting for renders.

Re: Which GLIDECAM ?

I do not have the footage up yet, I haven't figured out how to do that, but it was just a thread in the technical section asking how one would go about shooting in a very small plane.

I have the footage edited already (lol it was shorter than anticipated) but I don't know how to do screen grabs or put it in this link. I tried pushing prntscreen and saving it to window but hahah, that's not how you do it. I use avid express dv to edit. (i'm building a computer cheap for my new vegas 5.0).

This seven year old computer has like double digit ram or something so I don't want to try Vegas
out yet.

I ended up going hand held. I just wish I wasn't so sick. Good luck editing.

Re: Which GLIDECAM ?

hey enterdcable

Warning - do not buy the gc2000 for the dvx - I ended up switching it over after days of trying to balace the darn thing - i have a 7.x wide angle on my dvx - which is rubbish with the gc2000 :-/ the 400o is needed - believe me - its needed ;)

Re: Which GLIDECAM ?

:o Thanks so much!!!

I guess I'll get the GC 4000. Thanks so much for the heads up. Come to think of it, I'll pay a little more and be completely safe right?

I don't want to wait and wait for it to arrive and then it not really working....

I'll just make some bigger muscles so I can use it for longer.
