i'm thinking of buying a sennheiser wireless kit.

which frequency is "best"? A (516-558) B (626-668) G (555-608)

is there a difference?

is one "better" than the others?

i am located in a metro urban area. does that matter as to frequency choice?

thanks in advance.

be well

Check with Sennheiser's website. They have a frequency finder that will tell you which bands are the least crowded in your area. Though, in NYC, it's more like which few frequencies are "available". The biggest thing is to see which one has the fewest licensed frequencies, and then hope for the best outside of that.

Yes, it matters that you are in an urban area, and furthermore, exactly WHICH urban area.
Factors include what TV stations are in the area, and what the rest of the RF landscape looks like.

Two things that may help:

1) Sennheiser has an online service that will locate all the licensed transmitters in a given area:
http://12.148.18.149//
Note that many of the interfering sources are NOT licensed, so this will be helpful for the MAJOR sources.
This uses public information available also on the FCC website, but not nearly as convenient to use
as Sennheiser's website.

2) A method of monitoring the ACTUAL RF landscape at YOUR location at the time of production is
a big help. Until very recently solutions for this were more expensive than another channel (or two)
of wireless mics. However there is now a very inexpensive spectrum analyzer that several wireless
mic users are finding very helpful:
http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/rf-explorer-model-wsub1g-p-922.html?cPath=174
This covers 240 - 960 MHz and costs only US$130
I am planning on getting one of these myself.
It should be good for strategic surveys before you buy any mics (as to answer your primary question),
as well as tactical channel selection and problem resolution on location.
