Which firewire?

Can someone verify for me that the HVX-200's firewire port is First Generation firewire , AKA 1394, 1394a, FireWire 400. The manual states 1394, not 1394b so I do not believe I need the newer, faster interface.

I am interested in DVRack and want to capture 1080/24P.

It's regular s400 firewire. Not FW800.

That said, it is advisable when using an external drive for editing to use a true FW800.

Also, a 1394b port (either built in or on an expansion card) will talk to a 1394a device -- it will automatically negotiate the speed.

The camera doesn't even come close to utilizing the available bandwidth of 1394a, so it isn't being constrained there at all.
