Which final compression choose ?

I've read that D90 bitrate is between 2mbps and 32mbps .

For my final film i think I will choose MP4/avc ( H264 ) level 4.1 ?

What bitrate would you choose ?

I 've tested on only 5mbps and I don't see any improuvement at higher bitrate
So I'm surprised about the prefered settings that are published on many web site which are above 15mbps for 720p.

I don't know if I'm right but I think that the 24i/s of the D90 has an effect on the required bitrate ?
720p@24is required lower bitrate than 720p@50is like HD CAM ?

All codecs have there pros and cons. H264 is an effective codec but in most cases you end up with wrong videolevels. Washed out.
MPEG2 is the best when it comes to picture quality but it's not as effective as many others.
As an alternative to H264 is Sorenson 3. It's effective and you get correct videolevels.

These are my findings and I've looked at videolevels, compression artefacts, handling of graphics and playback compability.

i'm not sure what you mean by final film but i always master to prores on the mac or huffyuv on the pc. recompressing already highly compressed material to another low bit rate lossy scheme never sounded like a good idea.

I master by huffyuv on the PC to apply the lee wilson fix but about 18Go for 10min it is too big for me i would keep definitivly one very good H264 version and clear the master. So I wonder if I have to choose 7-8 mbps bitrate or ~20mbps. I tested on my Full HD TV SONY W4000 a 5mbps and I don't see any improvement above (tried 8mbps too).

h.264 gets some of its magic from creative removal of noise and redundant detail, so you may actually get "worse" results by using a higher bitrate, but it will be closer to the original, which is the point of having a master. i wouldn't go any lower than 20-30 mbit.

If you are a PC user, try the GrassValley Edius demo. I use the Edius HQ codec. Kinda like the ProRez for MAC. I've made uncompressed and HQ files in the Edius timeline, and I can't see the diference. You can change the compression settings in HQ mode.

Frankly, I edit everything in HQ. And all editing is realtime. I stopped using FCP. I
mean, come on, rendering a title with a drop shadow, geesh.
