Hi,
would like to know what are the minimum requirements for external hard drives to which I would be dumping DVCproHD footage from HPX170, to then edit in Mac+FCP. Recomendations about brands and models very welcome too.
thanks.

Firewire 800 minimum, or an esata port if you have a slot. 7200rpm or up for spin speed. Enclosure is less important than the brand of hard drive inside. I'd stay away from Seagate Barracuda's as the latest batch have had issues.

I've got a multicam project shot in DVCPROHD 1080 pA (30P) and I can run about 3 angles in parallel but the 4th will start to choke the FW. They are FW800 LaCie 7200 rpm with 16-32M cache, like just about all drives nowadays. Many people don't like LaCie but I have 14 of them and 0 problems.

ESATA must be even faster.

I'd say Caldigit VR, read-write speed is in the high 100's, plus drives are swappable and you can setup raid 0, 1 or JBOD. The mini raid is a compact option, but the 2.5 drives are not speedy enough plus is really hard to swap drives.
