Which camera under the circumstances

I will be shooting a documentary in Peru for 2+ months starting in may. I also plan to do some of the editing down there, probably amassing anywhere from 40 to 80 hrs. of footage. I have a dvx 100b but have pretty much come to the conclusion that I need to shoot in Hd. I'm intrigued by the hvx but am concerned with storage problems considering the amount of space the media takes up. Anyway, looking for opinions as to what might be the best camera to shoot doc with considering space, compatability with NLE's, lighting (mostly natural) and of course, the final image. (ALso considering HDV cams like JVC 110. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Even though the HD110 is a beutiful looking camera with a 'real' lens, it is twice the weight of the DVX.
Having a fully optioned XL2 which is similar in weight & ergonomics to the JVC I'd say take your DVX instead.

If you've never shot or edited HD in your studio before, be prepared to upgrade your NLE computer in terms of HDD space & processor speed because your video preview & rendering speeds will suffer. Not only that but there's also the extra attention to detail associated with focussing.

If you really want to shoot in HD forget the JVC because it uses the inferior HDV format. The Panasonic DVCPRO HD codec is easier to edit with because it doesnot rely on GOP. So grab your self an HVX with 80GB firestore.
