GH2 Which camera for feature film shooting from Jan 3 next year?

Hey guys,
We're shooting a feature next year from January 3 for 4 weeks and were planning to buy the Blackmagic camera, but are now thinking about the GH3.

I already own 2 GH2s and have the Voigtlander 25 and SLR Magic 12mm which I am reluctant to give up, but the color rendition and DR of the GH2 isn't quite where I want it. The BMCC looks great, but the new GH3 footage from Bloom looks pretty damn good. The M43 mount BMCC might not be available for Jan, so I would probs have to change to Canon glass, and when you add up the costs of SSD drives and storage space, then factor in the fact that the GH3 has features the BMCC hasn't, like slo-mo, ETC mode and probably better lowlight performance, $1300 versus $3500-$4000 looks pretty good.

What would you do?
THANKS

I'd prepare on shooting with the GH2 and look towards maybe getting a GH3 if you can. I think it's never a good idea to plan a film around a camera that has a good chance of not being available by your planned start date. The GH3 is more likely to be physically available to you at this point by January, while the BMCC, in either rendition, may not be available.

BMC would be awesome but I doubt you will get one by January, the m43 version might not be shipping by then....The GH3 looks good but will not ship until November, it might not be as good as a hacked GH2 its too early to tell.

If you can stretch it maybe rent, I don't know for sure but for 4k might get you a red one. But there are a lot of other costs that go with that.....

If it was me I would just shoot it with GH2's and plan every thing. I am in the lighting is everything school of thought. YMMV

I would shoot on GH2 and spend your money on Lighting and Art design, visually this will be superior to any camera you use...........

Case in point I am editing a project shot on a Red Epic where the budget was blew on the camera, props, models, etc AND yet somehow somewhere they forgot they needed LIGHTING...... Footage looks horrible and I dare say stuff shot on a t3i with lighting looks a lot A LOT better.
GH2 is an EXCELLENT camera and with the Hack a beast, spend your money on lighting..... LIGHTING is the most important thing visually to any Motion Picture.

As the others above have mentioned, shoot on the GH2. You already have it and know its limitations. Plus there is no guarantee that either the BMC or GH3 will be easy to get a hold of come January.

In fact I don't expect to get my hands on a GH3 until this time next year. By then, it will have been field tested by my peers, readily available and possibly hacked.

+1

By preparing on a GH2, you'll be ready to replace it with a GH3 relatively seamlessly if and when you do get it. The BMCC may take awhile to learn how to shoot properly since it'll have a bunch of new quirks and bigger storage requirements. I don't think I'd be comfortable shooting something as important as a feature with a BMCC if I had less than a month to learn it beforehand.
