Greetings: I've been experiencing this on-going problem importing MXF files into Avid MC for months--and it's making me crazy. Here's the situation.
We just installed an Avid Nitris running on an xw8600, nVidia 3700, Avid Ultra 320 media drives (2-channel stripe), etc. We're shooting on the HVX200.
We typically run a lav mic into channel 1 and then wild sound on channel 2. We're shooting on 16G P2 cards and our workflow is typical: shoot, transfer audio and video folders to external storage for backup and then transfer audio and video files to the Avid drives in the recommended folder format, i.e., 1, 2, etc.
Here's the problem: After starting Avid and running the Media Tool, I import said clips into their respective bins. Then, select clip, in/out points and cut into timeline. I can only hear the wild sound track. No lav track. I know it's there, because we monitor audio and hear it in its proper channel through the headphones on the HVX200.
Sometimes, only selecting the media files first 2 tracks (xxxxxx00, xxxxxx01) and only importing those files to the Avid drives gives me the proper audio channels. However, sometimes it doesn't and that's the part making me crazy. Additionally, in Avid, the bin information will sometimes indicate that audio channels are offline that are in fact, on the media drives.
Does this make sense, and has it happened to anyone else? We experience the same thing on our Avid Xpress HD w/Mojo as well--same problem, so it's not our setup or components.
Thanks, Craig
