where to send for repair

I need to know of a repair shop in the North East other than Mack Camera to fix my DVX100. Here is my story (if you feel like reading):

I bought my camera at B&H in New York. They gave me the only repair shop information they had - Mack Camera in New Jersey. So I spent the money on the warranty.

Later on my camera breaks pretty badly. Not covered in the repair. The lens pretty much broke off. I sent the camera to Mack Cam to get fixed. It cost $700.

It took two months to get back. When I got it back, the camera was in one piece but the focus was non-exsistant. Nothing could be focused on unless zoomed in to a certain amount. Zooming out after focusing would go back to blurry.

I sent it back in, angry. 2 weeks later I get it back. Looks good at first. While things can focus, if I zoom in and focus and then pull out, the object I focused in goes soft. I have to rotate the focus ring about 80 degrees to get it back in focus.

Grrr.... so I need to send it back AGAIN! And wait AGAIN!

IS THERE ANY OTHER REPAIR LOCATION? I can't find any when looking online. I'm frustrated, I'm really frustrated.

I suppose, I've already paid the $700, if I take it to another place I pay all over again. I'm mad. :Drogar-Mad(DBG):

Easy,

It looks like it just need the collimation adjustments. We can do that with no problems. It sounds like they replaced the entire lens for just a bad Focus Ring too!

We can help you out from now on. :)

Were you using an adapter?

Which adapter are you refering to? i have the panny wide and the century optics manual focus ring.

I take my cameras for repair/maintenance to Hi-Tech Electronics on Canal St. and Orchard St. downtown NYC. They fix everything on the spot and are very fast and reasonably priced. I don't know if you can ship to them though.. But its worth a trip to the city for.

I've read really good things about Armato's repair service. Haven't had the need to try them myself, but I did call them once about a matter and they were knowledgable, really nice, and had good prices for their repair work.

you should get insurance for your camera!! I just got it for $7000 of gear for $80 a year.

It even could cover me if i drop the camera and break it.

Since you are in Philly, Electronic Service Center on 21st Street does an excellent job. I havent had the severe problems with my 100a's that you speak of, but they have always been efficient and fair in their pricing. Good luck !

Any recommended repair places in the Boston area? I tried cleaning my heads with a tape but to no avail. I've got the blue screen of death.

Hi Everyone,

Wow - thank you for all the replies. I'm sorry I haven't been back in a while. The issues with the camera have just swamped me. And worst of all.... I have a movie to shoot in 3 weeks, so I've been rushing around, and yuch. Yeah, madness.

So - I researched the name of my problem and it seems to be a "back focus" problem which is fixed by re-seating the lens. This is apparently what Mac Cam did before, but I guess they did not re-seat it perfectly.

I thank you all very, very much for suggesting alternate places. My only problem with that is having to pay for another repair. I'm not sure I could afford that at this moment. At least not before the movie begins shooting.

I've talked about this with some people, and I'll ask here: what is the proper next step for Mac Cam? Have people asked for their money back? I spent $700 on the repair. But can I really ask for all the money back if they managed to fix it somewhat? Even though that "some" does not equal a working camera? Can I ask them to replace my camera with a new one if they can not fix mine? Can I ask for a lender for the movie while they try to fix my camera again?

What is too much to ask, what is out of bounds for something like this? Or is that completely fair?

I'm going to try and contact them again today and see what I can do. But any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
