Where to put the mics?

Ok I just shot an event where I used two wireless mics. Sounds pretty normal. This is the procedure I always did with my larger SONY DSR-500 DVCAM and Canon XL1. Of course with those cameras I could use a bit of good ole velcro and slap the mics to the camera.

Not so easy with the HMC40. Lets just say it was a bit of a nightmare trying to figure out where to attach my mics. I used a camera brace for a part of my shoot which worked fine to attach the mics to but when I switched to a tripod I no longer had a place to put them.

So my question here is where and how are other people attaching their wireless mics to the HMC40. I love the camera's compact nature but this is one area where I am really considering getting a HMC80 next.

Oh by the way I ended up cramming the receivers in my pants pocket. I'm sure it looked real cute.

Depends on the mic, but the hotshoe is adaptable to hold all sorts of things. The best option, however, is to either get a larger camera designed for this use or a sound guy.

Thomas,

Not sure where Cassius is coming from with the bigger cam comment considering you used to have bigger cams??

I use a Manfrotto super clamp on my tripod, with a "somewhat" magic arm attached, then a sheet metal shelf on the end to hold accessories. I have velcro in enough spots I can attach receivers, a 302 mixer, or whatever else to the shelf. This is a typical arm to build on:

Noga and others makes nice stuff also. If I don't use the shelf for audio, it makes for a good mini-desk.
