I'm looking to take the plunge and get a full editing package for home. I edit with Avid Symphony at work. But I'd like to get a full FCP with HD for home to edit my DVX100 and possibly HDX200 footage.

Where is the best place to purchase a complete edit package with all the newest from Apple? I have a budget around $5,000.

new os launch on april 29th, might be a chance you will get 10% off in the store, but be sure to call ahead, not sure if still doing this. definitely worth really looking into.

in pasadena, CA also ( seems to have turnkey stuff and packages) you can ask them to beat a price also. "Joe" is cool, manager , I think.

i'm sure there are others.

They're going to announce new Power Macs in the next couple of weeks (rumor has it), so you might want to hold out for the upcoming revision.

PowerMac w/ Dell monitor - $3000 (Dual 2GHz G5 or higher with lots of 3rd party RAM)
Final Cut Studio - $1300 (Should arrive in a few weeks)
$700 worth of Hard Disk space (You're gonna need it)

This should give you everything you need, editing-wise. Definitely hold out for new Powermacs, or you'll be kicking yourself that you paid $3000 for a machine that two weeks later costs $2200.

Think Secret has some rumored specs on the new PowerMac G5s:

Apple Insider is also reporting that some new hardware is just around the corner:

According to the Think Sercet article it looks like they are not coming out with the Dual-Core processors. That's unfortunate.

I've been waiting for four months now to drop some money on a Final Cut system. The software upgrades are finally here. Now I'm waiting on the hardware. It's killing me to have to wait this long. I have some projects lined up and am ready to get to work.
