Where to get repair and service for DVX

Re: Where to get repair and service for DVX

I found that the closest place isn't necessarily the best place. I just received SAME DAY turnaround for my DVX that developed two serious problems.
This excellent service was from Fox Valley Video in Illinois.
They have a website for contact info & there are other posts on this site that give address, phone number and good reviews.
I highly recommend them. Friend took his to the local authorized repair center and they said leave it with us for two weeks and we'll get back to you.
No connections to FVV, jsut very satisfied.

Re: Where to get repair and service for DVX

I'm happy that you have found Fox Valley Video Service to be helpful to you, but I on the other hand, have had my DVX repaired by this same company and have ended up with more problems than I started out with. I was very specific in what I wanted repaired and they didn't follow through...not only once, but twice! Their turnaround time is quite short but I think perhaps they should take a little more time and do the job right. I've read posts on this board about whether or not to use the cleaning tapes that came with the DVX. Fox Valley Service told me to use this tape, but others on this board have said that they are abrasive to the heads and will ruin the heads and will eventually require the heads to be replaced. I've been using Sony tapes on my DVX and started to have problems. Fox Valley told me to use the cleaning tape then try using the MQ tapes. If the cleaning tapes can ruin the heads, why would Fox Valley tell me to use them? I also have a Sony camcorder and Sony has told me not to use the cleaning tapes on that camera either.
