Where to buy (uk based)

Hey guys! Sorry if this has been discussed already! I found one regarding the US, but couldnt search my way to one in UK, so here goes.

After searching for what seems to be ages after a used Sony FS700, we've decided to give up and get a new 700RH; the price is getting pretty good after all. However, as I have very little experience buying these things. I know very little regarding places to buy one. I've obviously found quite a few via google, however all stores do tend to promise the same thing, and I like to research as much as I possible can before jumping to gun. As such, here I am. Any good advice on where to pick one up? Also, I wouldn't mind if they offered a fair payment plan of some sort. As in, I'm not looking to pay 1500£ in interest for a 5500 camera.

All advice is greatly appriciated! :)

Oh, I should mention that I wouldn't be opposed to getting the EK version instead and upgrading it myself, but it appears that the RH version is actually cheaper most places at this point, oddly enough.

Cheers!

http://www.hpreston.co.uk/ Have a 0% 1 year deferred payment plan.

I always use Creative video http://cvp.com/

Or ProAV http://www.proav.co.uk/

All three are certified Sony stockists. Why not wait a few days more and see if anything new is released at BVE?

Thanks! I looked a bit at the two latter links before posting here, but I'll def. make sure to check out hpreston!

I actually did not know BVE was just tomorrow. Obviously, I'll wait a couple of days and see what'll happen! :) Do you reckon there'll be any new releases that'll match the FS700 in terms of possibilities in the same price range? I know its probably just guesswork at this point. Just as I had my mind finally set on the FS700 too! :) Will Sony be doing their own coverage of the event, or is there a good newspage for releases on tbe BVE?

Sorry for all these noobish questions btw. Its a brand new world for me! :)

I doubt there'll be anything new at BVE, or anything for a while, that matches the FS700's full feature list when combined with an Odyssey 7Q at anywhere near the same price point (4K Raw, 2K Raw, 240fps high speed, AVCHD, 10bit HD Pro Res, time code in, XLR audio, ND filters, lens adaptors for any lens, inc the metabones speed booster).

You will, however, get fewer features for less money.

Speaking of money, maybe try contacting Azule finance regarding getting the package you need on hire-purchase. Or Tesco are doing a credit card that gives you 18months interest free on purchases plus club card points on all purchases (which equates to about 3% cash back).

I'm not sure if any new cameras are going to be released, but it wouldn't surprise me to see another version of the FS700 with the Xavc codec on board, and an updated version of the F3 with 4.2.2 50mbs MXF and Xavc, and perhaps 4K. Just speculation on my part, but you know how Sony are trying to dominate the market. I don't believe Sony would give CD 4K RAW without having something better on the horizon.

I too was looking at the FS700, but with it being nearly 2 years old, you know a replacement is round the corner. It is an amazing camera for the price, but the build quality, and on board codec puts me off. The PMW-300 is looking the best bet for myself, even if it doesn't have 4K (yawn) or a 35mm sensor.

If your looking at finance, try Tesco Loans, I bought my F3 with them without any problems. If you borrow £5000, you will pay back £5,310 over 2 years, monthly payments of £221.24. Not bad at all. I'm getting a new camera this year too

The FS700 is a prosumer camera, they won't put XAVC on it as they already have that camera, it's called an F5. There won't be an update to the F3, again, because that's the F5.

I don't see there being any update or replacement to the FS700 as it is relatively new and had only just had an 'update' to 4K Raw. The EX3 came out in '09 I believe and is still an industry workhorse, likewise the C300 came out in 2012 and I don't see much sign of that losing it's shine - so I suspect the FS700 still has a few more years left in it!

If they do bring out a new camera, my guess would be a full frame one with XAVC.

Oh really, so what is this then? http://www.photographyblog.com/news/sony_4k_handycam_fdr_ax100e/ A consumer camera with XAVC? XAVC is Sony's new codec, and will be used in most new cameras, obviously in different flavours.

The F5 is not a replacement for the F3, it's a B camera to the F55, or C camera to the F65. The F3 is still in production. The F5 is nearly twice the price of an F3 when you add up the EVF, Monitor, batteries and charger. A replacement should come in at around the same price as the original.

I wonder what the FS100 owners thought as after only a year, the FS700 was announced? All cameras have many years left in them, it 's the content that's important, not what camera you use. Do you think this is the end of the line for my F3? I'll bang an external recorder on it and film 4.4.4.

I don't need a full frame sensor, I don't need 4K, what I need is a good internal codec.

I was in projection both of my local cinema recently, all digital projectors, and all the films were in 2K! The films looked fantastic, crystal clear, so why would I need 4K?

This is the email I recieved from Sony

Thanks for the help so far fellas! :) I've send a few mails around which I'm waiting to get answers from, and I'm obviously keeping an eye on BVE, although I've not been able to find anything regarding any new models; only lots of talks about 4k production.

I've been searching with interest too, so far nothing. There is always NAB in April, so I'm going to hold on till then. Go for the FS700RH, you can't really go wrong with it to be honest, but don't forget to add on the price of an external recorder if your after 4K. Also add on the price of the drives, and the FS700 option, and your nearly in £10,000 mark.
