I have used my panasonic gh2 with canon vixia hf s20's as B and C cameras. I am planning on selling the vixia's and upgrading to another dslr to go with my GH2. I am thinkin the Canon 7d would be best, anyone think this is a good idea? Anyone selling one with a good lens for under 1600? Does this camera work well with the gh2?

bh photovideo has it for 1700 with the 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens. is this the best place/deal for me to buy it? any lenses that are better than this if i buy the body only?

whats the difference between these cams:

Any other cameras to throw in the mix? I really like the look of the 7d and the lenses for the gh2
arent good enough and the depth of field is the worst out of any dslr.

The second link is the same camera, different lens- EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, 10mm wider.
Both are pretty slow lenses (and will somewhat limit shallow DOF, if that's your main goal). That's why they're included in the package.

I like my gh2 but it looks no better than my friends t2i and my other friends d3100. I also cant get the depth of field they can get and I spent much more than they did. Im using a canon 50mm 1.4 lens that works good for interviews but still nothing compared to the interview footage and short film footage ive seen from the 7d.

I disagree completely. I think you should get another GH2 + Voigtlander 25mm rather than 7D + kit zoom if you're spending $1500.

that would still be like $1900 right? and i do some live events and weddings so I need one camera that can zoom in a decent bit

You can find a used GH2 for $500 and a used Voigtlander for ~$800. If you need a longer lens the Canon FD 35-105mm f/3.5 zoom is the equivalent of 70-210mm (very close to Canon's EF 80-200mm series) on the GH2 and works nicely with an adapter. You can get one for under $100 on eBay.

I shoot weddings with 3 GH2's and this is why I recommend it so strongly.

Thanks for the info ASchear, i will definitely look into this. So do you just use the Voigtlander for interview type shots? Is the Canon FD 3.5 good in low lights for weddings? Do you have any footage you have shot with these lenses i can check out? I was also planning on getting a glidecam for the Canon, since all of these lenses would be manual focus only, would that be a bad idea to get? ANy links to Voigtlander lenses online that would be good deals? sorry im new to DSLR's and dont know what or when to use different lenses.

It's so funny (not in mean way), never liked that phrase "my friend camera is better than mine and their footage looks better." What are the chances that your friends know a bit more about their cameras and how to use them? and maybe that's the reason their footage looks better than your or shallower depth of fielder? My advice to you before even buying anything, just get a full day of tests. Go to your local store test some lenses with GH2 see what you can or can't get. Try zoom lenses, and you will always have the simplest option of going far from an object and zooming in, if you want to get better depth of field. What I said, I didn't mean anything in bad way. What I'm trying to say is that your friends footage doesn't look better only because they have t2i or d3100. Learn your craft and limitations and only when you feel you are greeting maximum out of your camera and it doesn't pay you off anymore than maybe its time to upgrade. Once again, I'm not pushing my opinion on you, just an advices. Also I'm NOT defending GH2, because I have never used it but I've some GH2 footage that looked incredible.

well the thing is ive been using cameras for years, they bought theres and got their footage in all auto controls out of the box after never touching a camera before. There footage is going in and out of focus and they have no idea what they are doing but the depth of field is awesome and they can zoom in and out. I cant zoom in or out hardly at all and dont get near the depth of field as them. My image is probably more clear if blown up but for web videos its about the same only they have way better depth of field so it looks more film like and more professional. My 50mm lens doesnt even get the depth of field as their stock lenses.
