Where to buy AF in the UK ?

Hey Guys,

Am finally upgrading from my HVX ( The DSLR revolution is in full swing & clients seem to now expect the shallow DOF )

Looking for quotes at the moment any recommendations ?

Currently cheapest listed price is £3,395 from TNP Broadcast. Would love some help finding a bargain from a reputable supplier. Looking to spend hopefully £4.5k & get extra battery, bag & Nikon adapter to start off with.

Am London based.

Thanks,

Hi there,

TNP's price seems to be the best around. Our producer bought it last week from Proactive at the standard £3485 (exc vat), but got a good deal with lighting kit and other bits and bobs. Whoever you go with ask for a deal. Often suppliers haven't got too much of a margin with cameras, but they can be more flexible with bags and other accessories. Ask what's the best price they can do for the camera + bag and maybe get the adaptor and batteries elsewhere (you can get the batteries really cheap on ebay; the Voigtlander adaptor is getting really good reviews and is cheaper than the ones most reputable dealers will try to sell you).

Enjoy your shopping,

D.

P.S: This is my first post, by the way. I registered a long time ago, but never actively participated before (I'm a bit shy...). I just wanted to thank all the people in this forum who are always happy to help and share their knowledge. Thank you all.

recommend Visual Impact London, they are competitive, and have a great after sales reputation

Thanks dracalat !

I have also been a long term member but have few posts to my name.... seems people have always asked the questions I want to know the answers to :-)

The Voigtlander adaptor looks great value but I have a couple of Nikon G & DX lenses so need something for that..... the MTF option seems good but pricey. Anyone got a recommendation ?

Hey Cortex, any luck with Visual Impact's second hander? I hope you got there on time.

The Novoflex adaptor seems to have good reviews and is designed for Nikon G lenses. Production Gear have it for £150, which is cheaper than the MTF or Adaptimax (the other two adaptors I would consider; with these you would also be keeping things British ;-)).

Whichever you go for, stay away from the cheap ones from ebay - they don't tend to be able to hit infinity and most of them have crap tolerances and your lenses will be moving all around after a week's use.

Good luck!

whats up with your heart ?

thanks for info on the novoflex.... anyone using one & currently happy ? Or any MTF users happy ?

I'm using the Novoflex with Nikon F lenses, which I have had no problems with. I don't have any G lenses though so couldn't tell you how good the Novoflex's aperture ring is.

well i highly recomend - beiks, my local panasonic office recommended it to me. i bought it from them for Costs: 3900€ or 15200PLN net + vat (i did not pay vat as i am eu vat registered), i got a chance to order it in December 2010 (so i could save on income tax) and got it like on 3rd or 5th jan., had no problems, here is contact info if u r interested (if u dont mind u can mention Anatolijs - my name, maybe it will helps me with my future orders ). I ve been told by Panasonic that they are official Panasonic dealers for all baltic region, also at that moment i did not find a price cheaper. I am sure they can sell around EU no problems. I had dhl delivery(30euro). i also got rode mic from them.

Hey I just bought the af100 from bh photo and i live in the UK. The camera shoots pal and everything anyways so you dont have to worry. With taxes and everything it came to around £3900, a good few hundred cheaper than buying it in the uk. THe only issue i believe is the battery charger will have the us plug end, but i have an adapter anyways. Hope this helps!

i was going to do same back in december but the problem you may get is the WARRANTY the AF100 is for the usa market and you ll not get usa warranty in the uk / europe, so its away from the best option. i dont think that few hundreds worth the loss of manufacture warranty(1+2 years i believe). Also European model is af101, not af100.

also i got my self into the money loss situation when i bought from BH this year : SD card , dvd discs and hdmi cord, + shipping, all was around 300$ ! in 2010 my country law was that if u bought anything for 300 usd or less out side of EU , u pay no tax or custom fees, but i did not know that the law was changed since 2011, and now its ok to buy something only if its 20$ or less, so when i came to post office i payed 85$ for VAT + 42$ custom duty tax. good thing i dont have to pay vat at all, and i got my 85$ back from the government after 3 months

but 42$ out of the 300$ total order , now if its something more expansive like camcorder imagine how much extra u ll pay........ so be careful and think twice , mostly if u try to save too much u`ll pay twice

hey yeah I know the warranty does not cover which sucks, however i intend to get a good comprehensive insurance, perhaps even the bh sold sagemax insureance which is international and covers accidental damage and wear and tear (which a standard panasonic does not.) The panasonic one just covers product faults i believe. And that's unfortante that happened to you, it must of sucked! Luckily bh have a thing now where they can show how much prices are including taxes etc that they collect for you. It's not on every purchase but i managed to get it, it was expensive but still cheaper than the uk. For the af 100, an arri stand, two arris scrims and a pannny gold 16gb card including taxes and postage it cost me £4009. Which is cheaper than most uk places sell the af101. (Obviously add maybe another £200 for sagemax warranty which lasts 3 years).
