Where is the mid-range P2 AVC Intra 4K camcorder from Panny?

So there's a gap in Panasonic's product line. They've been at the forefront on the HD side for years, but recently slacking a bit and giving the front seat to these "in between" cameras like the DVX-200 and X1000. Where is the professional 4k camera with AVC Intra and P2?

It's what the DVX-200 should have been but it lacks the AVC Intra and P2 part.

I basically want a 4k version of the PX-270. I expected something like this out already.

Anyone have any insight?

I'm sure it'll arrive, but they have only so many engineers and development teams. They just released the AC30 and have announced Fall delivery of the UX180 and UX90. If there's going to be a 4K P2 handheld, and I have no reason to doubt that there will be, I'd look for serious work on it to start once the UX180 and UX90 are out.

Yeah so then next spring perhaps? Hopefully they'll go back to Leica lenses. I'm not crazy about the lens that is on the 250 and 270 line.

When it comes to transition from 1080p to 4K, pretty much every major manufacturer has a gap or two (or four). This settling down period might take another couple of years.

BTW, P2 cards seem to be on the verge of becoming a relic. SDXC V60/90 and UFS cards do the 4K trick very well and for a lot less.

No idea whatsoever, but it would seem like an appropriate time (NAB in April seems like an appropriate show to announce such a product if they have one).

Hopefully they'll go back to Leica lenses.
The DVX200 is a Leica lens, and I believe the UX180 and UX90 are using Leica lenses too. That would seem a promising trend towards standardizing on Leica glass again, but there's no guarantee any future product would follow the same trend.

In my opinion, the lens on the DVX200 did not impress me in the day I had one for testing. It had a fair amount of barrel distortion on the wide end. I think the PX270 lens is pretty good in this regard although the chip is a lot smaller. Some are down on the PX270 lens but how can you argue with the amazing images? It is a great camera.

Hey BarryAny word on when you might get some pre-production model of the UX180 and UX90 to test ?

No -- and I don't know if I will; they don't send me every new product they make to evaluate, so it may or may not happen, but I haven't heard from them about it.

So this camera is still missing in Panny's lineup. We have the UX-180,90 but there's no Intra on the 4k side and it lacks MicroP2 and proper internal 10bit 422.

Understood. There will be more products on the horizon.

Wonderful! Basically a UX-180 with professional features is what I’m hoping for!

Integrated lens (at least 20x)
All intra 4k 10bit 422 codec to internal media. (At least 200mbps)
Manual zoom, mechanical
Sdi and timecode

Honestly, just put the guts of a gh5 into a camcorder body and I’ll be very happy.
