FS7: Where is the metadata I changed with Catalyst Browse?

In Catalyst Browse one can change metadata, comments and a basic 'rating' as keep, OK and NG
When I change the data and then open these files in other software like Premiere Pro or Resolve the data is not visible.
Am I doing something wrong or does someone know where to find the data, and how to use it (sorting or searching etc.) ?

Or is it a little Sony joke and is this metadata only visible in other catalyst suite software? And useless too because nothing can be done with it.

Unfortunately at this moment most of the XAVC metadata is not read buy other NLE's. It's quite comical, because XAVC is out for few years now.

So it is a Joke. 'lets add some features in our software no one can use. And we call it Unique Selling Point'

Yeah, 'and then tell everybody the clips are easy to export to other NLE's, that would be fun.'

'And we call it XML, Extensible Markup Language, just as other software makers do. So we can pretend we are as innovative as other branches where exchange of files is common.'

That's not a Sony fault. Concept is great and when it finally will be implemented in NLE it could open up a lot of possibilities. I have no idea what BM or Adobe haven't done that yet. "XML error" in Adobe is present for 2.5 years now.

it will be a matter of time before Sony can convince other manufacturers to support and read the metadata. To date I am only aware of Sony software that will read and display it.

I think this is the fault of other manufacturers, not Sony.

Why don't the paying subscribers of Adobe lobby to have it added - wasn't that the "benefit" of the subscription model which I profusely refuse to adopt and/or implement?

Out of curiosity, does anyone remember how long took software manufacturers to adopt the RED R3D format in full?

Yeah and I don't mean to be sarcastic, I'm actually curious.

Is this correct? I found it online:

"In 2007 with the release of Premiere Pro CS3, Adobe introduced and ... RED. If you consider that each of these formats supports several, if not …"

Hi Alohype
You should be right when I could use these metadata in Browse or in Catalyst prepare. I can't sort or search my own metadata in Sony software too. I bought the software to be able to sort, rate and search.

I might be stupid, I found out in my quest for simple easy to use software that it sadly is not about choosing the best, but choosing the least bad and faulty software.

Adjustment of the raw metadata from with Premiere wasn't until a while into me having my Scarlet. so I'm guessing that's circa 2012.

There were plugins to allow native editing of the R3Ds in various NLEs a while back.

Adobe is busy adding stuff that no one was asking for (and making whole app less reliable, crash-o-matic with every big update). No time for adding actually useful tweaks that PP is missing for years.

Small thing that makes me pull out my hair every time I'm starting a new project. WHY OH WHY I cannot set clips order by name as default? Why do I have to change it from "user" every single time? If that's me missing something let me know.

Adobe is making the same mistake as its former competitor Quark Xpress (then marktleader), 'we are the best. Let's sit down and enjoy)'
I started wit adobe pagemaker when Qxpress was the best and most used software for editing text. Then adobe was eager to beat the competition. Now they don't have competition (they think) all they have to do is wrap the same old software in a new business-model.
They lost me.
Would not surprise me if, in a few years Adobe doesn't exist anymore. And join former leaders like Wordperfect and Quark.

In my opinion anyone paying into the subscription model is being hornswoggled.

From a risk and lifecycle management perspective in any "real" IT industry, any auto updating software would never be permitted and even if it were to be disabled the frequency of updates would be reduced to a minimal amount of usually once or twice per year.

Just imagine you run a million dollar corporation and on a daily basis you eagerly wait the surprise of your software crashing or not working causing you grief, lost productivity, or worse lost business.

In the IT industry proper management of software lifecycle is a discipline and there are teams of assigned testers to ensure that any new patch or version update has no significant disruption to business or at least that any limitations are known in advance of releasing the update for use so it can be dealt with accordingly. This of course, at the expense of the company and all it's resources and efforts.

If you ask me, Adobe should be paying YOU monthly to use their software - not the other way around.

I'd like to see where Adobe is in 10 years, my guess is they will reach a point where they won't even be able to get users to switch back for free.

My subscription ends in November. I'll keep it that way, but Sony does something likewise, they promise the world and don't deliver.

Is it that difficult, add matadata and sort the files on that metadata?

No. I actually cannot imagine any feature that would be easier to implement then that (unless there is a quirk involved). If I'll get a time I might code a plugin for doing this.

Adobe is handling the stuff that matters the same as Sony is handling firmware features on the cameras. (sarcastic remark)

Sony just released a sub-update to v6 firmware for F5/F55 to fix some color bars bug that I have never even read about on the Sony forums, meanwhile useful requests like programming a button to switch to center-crop has been ignored for over a year.

These companies doing "more to benefit the consumer" is pure and simply PR and marketing.
