Where do you think is the perfect place to write?

There are certain places I know I can write, whilst in my bed, and sitting at my desk... those spots have been used up, so I can pretty much write anywhere, till I get to used to it, then I have to move

Coffee shop's like IHOP are amazing places to write. They're open 24hours, unlimited coffee with refills for around $2.15. The coffee is arabica (smooth) actually pretty good. Just tip your waitress really well because they will remember you each time you come in to write. They'll keep the coffee fresh and keep bringing you water. I've written a few scripts at IHOP. Some even have free WIFI or internet wall jacks and flavored creamers. Can't beat that.

I lived across the street from the ihop in downtown Austin for a number of years, very good place to write. I also wrote a screenplay in the bar of a whorehouse in Rio Dulce Guatamala one winter.

In my head, so anywhere. I let the story come to me and work it out there, THEN I put it on paper, saves so much time.

Never tried writing at an airport, but that might have a certain energy. A couple of times I went to an airport, MSP international, with a friend or alone, just for fun, to people watch, see the people and commotion-- the energy there and the people can be incredible. Could be fun writing there in a lounge sometime, or taking notes on people for characters, etc. given the variety of people passing through.

In a bubble. I've tried writing with music, instrumental, but it never works for me. I feel like it should, but it doesnt. I have to be in a quiet bubble, like a space in between, so I usually put on my earphones but play nothing. That insulated quietness is perfect, like a mental cloak of invisibility.

For the actual script, a totally quiet room with no distractions. Thankfully I have one of those - my recording studio control room.

For writing the story, which these days I do very thoroughly before any script writing takes place, the same room serves well, but I can only sit and do that for an hour or two at a time before my brain starts to feel like a wrung out dishrag (I can write a script all day long but hammering out a great storyline is seriously hard work). So I quit, but as others have mentioned, story ideas come anytime/anywhere. So it's a combination of the couple hours 'o hammering away, and then ideas a-poppin' everywhere else.

When I've gotten stuck on something during either stage, I find the shower (as someone else mentioned) to be a surprisingly good place to 'spontaneously' find the solution. I just have to keep repeating the idea in my head until I can get out, dry off, and write it down... : )

Maybe someone should invent a 'tubtop" computer... :bath:
