was planning on getting a monitor to use when shooting. I want to be able to tell the how the lighting and focus is. I heard its eaiser then looking through the view finder or lcd screen. Anyone know a place i can get a nice monitor for a good price??

I own a little 9" JVC production monitor. It beats the pants off any TV you will get at Best Buy or the like.

Of course it runs about $600...

Check eBay for JVC's TM-910SU.
It's a neat little 9" monitor for SD and can do 4:3 and 16:9, has both 110V AC and 12V DC power options, PAL and NTSC capable, and can be often found for about $100-$200.
Watch out for screen burns, and other problems found with such used equipment.

From what I've read in previous posts, the Vari-Zoom TFT monitors are no good. Anyone care to weigh in on them?

I'd like to get a good LCD field monitor, but may have to buy a CRT if they are considerably cheaper. (I"m looking in the neighborhood of 5-6 hundred) Can't afford a Marshall right now. :crybaby:

Go with a CRT for exposure and color (and focus in that price range).
Agreed. Based on the Sony LCD we just got at work, I'd be more comfortable with a good old CRT monitor shooting my own freelance stuff. (color & exposure)
