It's also used... for less than $100 more you could get a brand new unit from EVS, which would have a guaranteed US warranty, and also includes the DVX Book and DVD, and the Magic Bullet for Editors software.
Ooooh, it comes with the book now if you buy from EVS? Cool. The book alone is more than worth the price difference. Panasonic should put one in every box.
What exactly does purchasing from a non US authorized dealer mean? I bought my 100A from a place in Jersey (BuyDig.com), and it came with the Magic Bullet, etc and everything has been fine so far. I also got a full US Warranty. Where would a place like buydig get their dvx's if they are unauthorized? Is it necessarily from a questionable source? This whole discussion makes me a little nervous, but I was none the wiser when I bought, and luckily I have had not problems yet.

Wow, That's great news for you, and better news for anyone who buys the camera. Congratulations!
As far as a warranty goes, if you didn't buy from an authorized dealer, you don't have a warranty. That is Panasonic's policy
The only example I can give you of where grey market dealers get their cameras is what happened to me. My camera was designed and built for use in Japan. That means (among other things) it has no UL certification. Since Japan is an NTSC country, it works okay here. They traced the serial number as having come back through Canada into the Stateds, where I bought it online from a NYC reseller. (who swears ignorance, while trying to screw me, but that's another story) My instruction manual is a photocopy, all the text on my box is in Japanese (Except the Panasonic AG-DVX100A Logo, and the letters NTSC) All North American (or maybe US, I can't remember) cameras should also say "AG-DVX100AP", mine has no "P".
Like you, I have no problems with my camera. Although I feel stupid and angry at both myself and the dealer (who advertises that they supply a warranty), and I get more nervous than usual every time I take my camera out. IT's a quality product though, and expect to use the hell out of it for years to come. But I learned my lesson. Before I buy any accessories for my camera, I always check here first.
Mine is all in English, and the manual, etc, etc are all English. It came with a warranty card as well. So even though I have the warranty card it is still not warranted? The ad in BuyDig says it is warranted and not gray market?? Maybe I got screwed too! I better hope nothing goes wrong with it. Any way to tell from serial number if it was originally intended for sale in the US?
Well, that might be an authorized dealer. Check the panasonic website. They list authorized dealers. Did someone tell you it wasn't authorized?
As far as the serial number goes, Jan Crittenden can track it for you. SHe's the Panny product rep on this site. But check the Panasonic site first to see if it's an authorized dealer. You may be worrying for nothing. Hopefully.
I entered the zip code on the Panny website for the area in NJ where BuyDig operates out of to get a retailer for Panasonic products, but they didn't list BuyDig (maybe because they do not have a retail store there?), but I couldn't find just a list of authorized dealers on the Panny site.
Buydig is not an authorized reseller; however, they have sold authorized cameras in the past. They can't buy cameras from Panasonic (only authorized dealers can) so they have to get them where they can; sometimes unauthorized resellers buy gray-market cameras (like Jim's), sometimes they buy them in bulk from authorized resellers.
My understanding on the warranty issue is this: if it was sourced from Panasonic USA, it is supposed to have warranty coverage. So if you bought it from Buydig, and Buydig bought it from an authorized reseller, and the authorized reseller bought it from Panasonic, then you're okay and you're covered (I THINK). But if it was sourced from any other territory (i.e., AMPhotoWorld bought it on the gray market from China or something) then no, it will not have warranty coverage.
Buying from an authorized reseller means you're guaranteed to get a US warranty, the Magic Bullet for Editors, and now the DVX Book/DVD. Buying from a non-authorized reseller means you may or may not get those things; starting in January '05, if you don't get the DVX Book/DVD, you definitely have a gray-market camera (even if it includes MBE).
What about Abes of Maine? They're the cheapest I've seen ever and they claim to carry the US full warranty but I don't see any DVX book or Magic Bullet. View here:
They're not authorized dealers. If it doesn't have the DVX Book/DVD in the package, it is *not* a US product, and will NOT have the manufacturer's warranty! Some of these shops lie through their teeth when they say "USA Warranty" because it's not the MANUFACTURER's warranty, it's some bogus in-store warranty. I don't know if Abe's is doing that trick or not, but the simple undeniable fact is: no DVX Book/DVD (starting in January) = gray market product with no manufacturer's US warranty.
I haven't yet heard back from Jan, but I can say that my camera from buydig has the Panasonic warranty card and came with the MBE software. From what Barry is saying above, it sounds like I probably do have the Panasonic USA warranty and the camera was probably purchased by buydig from an authorized dealer. Again, when I hear back from Jan I will post her response.
