Where are the nd filters on this camera?

I'm wondering. Is it realistic to think that Panasonic might release a firmware update for the 40, offering significant improvements? Is it being considered?

I keep checking in on PASS to see if there are any updates (plus, since I'm a member as all of the registered owners here should be, I get their email updates), but none yet, nor talk of any being considered. I think that there was one update for the 150, but that was quite a while ago.

I read the release notes on the one firmware update for the 150, and apparently all it did was fix something so the camcorder worked with "class-10" SDHC cards. If that's the only update for the 150 in over a year, I guess I'm sure not going to hold my breath for a firmware update offering significant improvements for the 40. Oh well. No biggie. It's a great cam as-is.

I keep hoping for flash band compensation. But I will be surprised if we see it at this price point.

It occurred to me last night, for folks that are concerned about flash bands, a crude "fix" of sorts that you might try in post, would simply be to drop contrast bigtime in the affected frame(s). Just a thought - not something I've tried. I have no idea how much (or even if) it would really help.

They've pretty much never offered any firmware update that offered *any* improvements, so I would say that it's wildly unrealistic to expect any firmware update to add any features or improvements.

newblue offers a plugin that helps with flash bands (and rolling shutters). They have a demo you can try.
