When using black burst generator?

I am using Avid Mojo, the mojo has a input for external sync signal.
But when does someone need a external black burst generator?
Is it recommended to use one?

I use my DVX-100AE as a player when capturing audio/video. And also for backing up editings.
 
WHen capturing from BetaSp for example, you would sync the deck and Xpress Pro to a single blacburst source then control by 9pin RS-422.
 
But they say that firewire isn't the most frame accurate transition, so when using a DV deck via firewire, is it then usefull? Or is it usefull to control the deck via 9pin RS-422 when using firewire deck?

Or when using firewire connection, it is not nessesery to use blackburst nor RS-422?
