what is the proper procedure to upgrading from 5.1.2 to 5.1.6. do I have to delete any of the other upgrades and just keep the orginal 4.6 do I delete everything including the 4.6

Delete everything. This will not remove your projects or media, but to be safe I always make a backup of my projects folder.

when I say delete I mean go to my computer add/remove programs should I delete all the avid off my puter from there and then download 5.1.6 but dont I need the 4.6 on there and then just add the 5.1.6 or just the 5.1.6 alone will do it.

That's a confusing sentence, so let me try and answer it this way:

All of Avid's installers contain the whole program. Even if they're called an "upgrade" the way they upgrade the system is to install the whole program from start to finish. They're not patching old installs. Therefore you don't need to have 4.6 installed to install 5.x You can just install 5.x and be done with it.

Regarding Add/Remove programs, we're on the same page there. Just uninstall it and you'll be ready to install 5.1.6.

Be sure to read the readme file with 5.1.6 there were some versions of Avid that were incompatible with previous user settings and required you to delete those which is a manual process and not handled by Add/Remove programs. I can't recall right now what versions that applied to, but it was documented in the readme file.

Sorry for being confusing Iam not trying to confuse you. I do get what your saying now. Basically I should be putting the upgrade while the computer has no Avid what so ever. The 5.1.6 should be the only Avid on the computer as if Im putting Avid into my computer for the first time.

thanks

It's all good. Adding and removing files from Windows can sometimes be an exact science and I wanted to make sure that there was no misunderstandings. Sounds like you're got it.
