When the 35mm dust settles....

Which unit, in your opinion, will be the best value for the money in terms of

- Price
- Features
- Usability
- Reliability
- Performance

Would be people be leaning more towards on a unit that can be used run-n-gun style? A unit that can be used mostly on tripod shoots? Or both? I'm curious.

It's practically impossible to use a 35mm adapter "run 'n' gun". The depth of field is so shallow, and the size of the rig is so large, that it would seem highly impractical.

I would disagree (gulp, go easy on me Barry :) ). The HVX and DVX (and all cams with metal filter threads I tested) are completely at home, with no rails, and the Brevis attached. Once adjusted, it screws on in seconds. Up the f stop to F2.8 to F8 and the depth of field is much more manageable...while maintaining the 35mm "look". The reason I'm using carbon fibre and CNC aluminum is to minimize weight and certainly satisfy the run and gun folks, while maintaining a very rigid chassis. Same idea on the internal power.

For plastic threads, rails are definitely more stable (chassis flex a big issue) but I still use my cam on the fly in this configuration.

Now we just need a brave soul to stress test the DVX/HVX filter threads to failure with respect to axial torque.

I have to agree with Dennis. I've seen A LOT of run and gun footage shot with 35mm adapters (browser though the companies websites and you will find out).

Here is an email sent to me from Mr.Houser the other day. Thanks for the reply Jonathan.

Please forgive my delay in response. I have been traveling quite a bit
lately and finalizing several aspects of production, so getting to all of my
emails has been a bit of a chore.
We are very excited about some collaborations we have made with another very
talented inventor. This is going to bring a merger of great ideas and
products. This is the main
Reason we have been so quite over the past months. More info will be
released as soon as everything is firmed up. We are looking at a release of
the first 50 units in July and the rest to roll
Out shortly after.

There ya go. It won't be long now and it sounds like the colaboration with Dan (if that's still the case) is going well.
Can't wait.:)

That is great news!...I would be happier if he had said the first 87 units would be ready to ship on july ;-)

I was going to go with the m2 because of the great footage it generatess, but then i stumbled apon the iFOCUS 35mm adapter and it seemed to me that it was not only great quality, but easy to drag around and stage a shot. Many user's who own it have also indicated that. So, i ordered one last week, now im just waiting for it to get in. OH, and the pricepoint of $600 is king.

Next week I'll probably be testing the Brevis35 with my FX1. It shows awesome potential. Dennis is making some changes to it that I belive will put the brevis35 among the big league when it comes to 35mm adapters.

Rafwa I'd like to see that footage. I had emailed Dennis to see if anybody had done this yet. Can you really go to town and fire up some kick ass footage? I'd love to see some interview style indoor and out as well as some run and gun footage.

i have used mine run n gun a lot. i have it on rods with a follow focus and i put the whole thing on my fig rig. the entire thing is much bulkier than the dvx alone but it is quite managable even shooting moving subjects.

Actualy, since I'm a beta tester, I have an understanding with Dennis and I'll ask him if it's ok to post here. I don't think there's anything wrong with it (on the contrary! it's good publicity!) but I'll ask him anyway. I'm just waiting for the achromat and the canon fd mount to arrive so that I can start shooting. It might arrive tomorrow or on the begining of next week. As soon as I have some footage I'll try to post it.

I also have a Brevis and its really lightweight and very fast to set up.
I also am waiting on the achromat and canon mount but have shot with the close up lenses and nikon mount. I use a .... dang forgot the name of them. These tiny magnets that are super freaking strong and stick to the LCD by themselves with no tape so you just pop it on and poof, the footage is flipped without trying to find the sweet spot.
The Brevis can even be used without the unit on by the way. I keep forgetting to turn it on but I have not seen any static grain in the footage yet that I see on other static adapters in the light colored areas of the footage.
Dennis has posted screenshots of the improvment on the Brevis thread.

The more I think about this the more I think this info should have been made available to everybody who has their names on the waiting/mailing list. I hope by august the next 50 units are available.
