Still on the market for a used HMC40.
Found one for $1400....
But considering the fact that new ones go for a few more hundreds is it worth $1400?
So what is a "good" deal: $1100? $1200?../

Thx

Keep in mind the warranty. A new HMC40 gets you a 3-yr warranty, a used one might. I bought a used HPX500 and was able to get the 5-yr warranty from Panasonic for it. I'm not sure about Panasonic's policy on the HMC40. As an example, I understand Canon cameras do not have a transferable warranty.
A warranty would be worth it, in my opinion. Nice to have that little peace of mind for an extra few hundred dollars.

From my experience buying and selling Panasonic cameras, the extended warranty is non-transferrable. I believe that the original warranty is transferrable, assuming the original owner un-registers the camera and the new owner registers it. I could be wrong though, but I've had warranty issues with a previously owned piece of equipment and everything went well with Panny....although they didn't ask if I was the original owner.

A good deal on used gear, in my opinion is a camera that has low levels of usage, no signs of abuse, and one that comes with a lot of useful accessories. Anytime I buy used, I assume that I am getting no warranty.

For me, I buy used for the convenience AND the savings: I'd rather spend $1500-1700 on a used HMC40 that comes with batteries, mics, a memory card, some filters, adapter lenses, and an XLR adapter rather than just buying the cam for $1100-1200ish and then have to shop around for the extra bits.

and you should add: "Oh, and I have one for sale!!
:-)

LOL... yeah, it was posted on the marketplace forum for a bit this month. I really like the camera, I just don't do much freelance video this time of year, so I've been toying with the idea of selling it. :D
