FS5: When does the audio limiter kick in?

Can someone tell me when the FS5's audio limiter is going to kick in when activated? I hoped to find something in the FS5 user manual but the whole audio section has not been well documented.

My own tests let me believe that the limiter starts to attenuate signals at approximately -9dB. But I am not sure.

Any help appreciated.

Ya, Sony's often not forthcoming with audio info. But -9dB sounds like a reasonable place for a camera limiter to kick in... that's perhaps -7dB below its preset limit of -3dB or something. But I'm just guessing here.

Top of my head:

Do you or a friend have a good audio mixer with adjustable tone? You could send tone to one channel of your FS5 start at -20dBFS, then up the mixer's output by a dB every 5-10 seconds, and speak the level into the FS5's other channel. Go all the way to -0dBFS.

Yell/overload a mic plugged into the camera. Do a yell growing in volume and a sudden yell.

Do some loud claps that will/should overload the camera.

Bring all that into an audio editor and stare at the waveforms as you listen to playback. That should give you a sense of how Sony configured their limiter, in terms of attack, compression ratio, and how far below the limit the knee starts.

Will be curious to learn what you find!
