When can I buy one?

Okay, I've been reading up on this forum for months about the HVX. I was close to buying an XL-2 but I came to my senses and decided it is time for HD. I have now saved up my cash and I'm ready to buy an HVX. My question: Without being on a pre-order list, when is it realistic to believe I can finally buy one?

An official USA warranty model? I would get on a list pretty quick. And you are probably looking at the middle to end of March. It just depends on whatever dealer you are going with.

A grey model. There are a couple on Ebay right now. They are going for around $6000.
 
I ordered mine from Lee Drady at Roscor in Chicago on the 7th and I got a call that it came in today. They had a great price on it too, only $5375. I am not sure what his list looks like now. If you want, call him at 800-323-8148 ext 1372. Good luck on the camera hunt.

Seriously, though, I expect mid-March to April is a reasonable time frame.

Call around... There's actually a few HVX200's out there if you look. A lot of low-number people on wait-lists have passed on the cameras for some reason or other and some dealers with very small waitlists may have one. I've been calling around frantic looking for P2 cards to go with my camera. Finally found a couple in Canada and bought their last two cards. But in my searches, I actually found a few shops with an HVX200 available, and of course, no P2 cards to go with it.
 
I just bought one yesterday and it will be here no later than Friday. They normally come with P2 but I didn't want them. I guess they have extra P2 lying around!

Give my guy a call, you never know. Their main office is in Richmond, VA.

Roscor also had both P2 cards 4gb and 8gb in stock yesterday, if anyone is still trying to find some.

No they didn't. :P

They do indeed have 4GB cards in stock (they have yet to see an 8GB card), but won't sell them to anyone other than those who buy an HVX200 camcorder from them. Or at least not until supply catches up to demand. I've called them more than once, I've begged, I've pleaded... No deal.
 
Sorry, I was just going on the fact that I had bought one with my camera and he said he could sell me more. I thought he said he also had the 8gb but must have been wrong.

If Panny doesn't have the pre-orders settled by July, that'll be pathetic. Even that might start to make HDV not look so bad.:)
 
Well looky here, a beautiful brown box with a message on the side... "AG HVX200P" on the side. It came early. Christmas in February!!!

Now I can contribute to the "I'll post a sample tomorrow" crowd. Now, if I only had that FS-100 too.

If anyone is still looking to reserve a camera somewhere, I just spoke to Lee at Roscor and he said he should be able to deliver camera to anyone who places a firm order within 2-4 weeks from the order date as of today. I ordered mine on Feb 7th and am getting it delivered tomorrow.
