Whats your video camera of choice and why?

It depends on the project. I love my AF100, and it is my goto camera right now for most of my work. I still use my HPX170 for certain things, such as run and gun ENG style stuff and concerts/events (Mostly due to CCDs being better with flashes). For extreme slowmotion, if it is going to be projected, or for feature work, I like the RED MX, budget permitting, though I think the AF100 is going to take much of my low end RED work (which is good for me). I also use the GH1.3 when I am not able to bring a video camera. End of the day, it comes down to budget/project. There is no one camera for everything.

seems like many of the big dollar cameras and ALL the DSLRS are just a series of compromises.

i shoot different stuff every day. i rely on my hpx170 because it does what its supposed to without a bunch of hoop-jumping and logistics.

I'm a huge fan of the 170. P2 is the most reliable medium out there. It has hdmi, hdsdi, component and just about any other out put you need. It has a large firewire port that wont break. Its 3 ccd not cmos. It seamlessly switches from SD to HD. It does decent in low light. it is lightweight.

How is lowlight with the 170? better than the 150? I run into low light issues a lot with 150, thinking of upgrading, also for 4:2:2 space. My 150 could be a b cam, and it 's still a lot cheaper than an a f100

I don't have a 150 to compare to, but the 170 does decently well. Taping a poorly lit stage either my iris has to be almost closed or the 1/8th filter had to be on indoors. (accidentally closed my iris while shooting and the screen went black, opps) If I have to almost close my iris/use filters, i think that pretty well in low light. This means it could go a lot lower. If you want to rent one before you buy, send me a PM. I can make you a good deal so you can really see how it does before buying.

It really depends on the gig -- clients sometimes specify what they want on the job. For 80% of what I am doing, however, it is either my 200a or my GH-13's. I just finished a long multi-cam shoot of a women's conference, where SD was fine with the client. My old JVC 5000's went out and fed my TriCaster.

I use an HMC151. Before I was a user of the HVX200 but the P2 media just costs to much for me, and the Firestore FS100 was a nightmare to carry along.

I use it for ENG style of work, and it works great. If I want the shallow DOF, and cine like style I just slap on my SGblade and there we go =)
