Whats your thoughts about moving to Premiere Pro CS6?

I always thought the interface sucked and pre-rendering sucked for previewing so I always loved Vegas. Can I get the opinion of some people who have gone from Vegas to CS6? What are the pros and cons of switching?

I've been forced to use Premiere when taking over other people's jobs, but there's no way I would switch from Vegas Pro to Premiere.

Personal taste is... personal. I quite like PPro, but from what I can tell the interface has changed in CS6 (Adobe says my DVDs are in the mail, so I'll know more next week) to a simpler layout that's more video and less controls showing. Which may be good or bad depending on... personal taste.

If you love Vegas, use it. Use the tools with which you are most comfortable so you can put more of your effort into doing the work, not fighting the tools.

If there was no crashing then I agree Jim. Anyone wanna predict when the next update will be released?

Sometimes I feel pressured into switching (thanks to you, internet!) but I've used Premiere, and I still love Vegas. You always need to weigh up the pros and cons, which his right, but my own pros on Vegas still outweigh Premiere.

So ive messed with premiere CS6 enough to get a feel and these are things I like better than Vegas:

1. I love their explorer window where u can just scroll though all the video clips from the explorer with a little move of the mouse.
2. Sending clips or a clip etc into AE and back is great.
3. I do like the way you can manipulate keyframes on the timeline with the bezier tool etc. (I love the pen tool where you draw but ae's way rules)
4. Control how often the autosave works.

The rest I love more with vegas and think 3 of the 4 things vegas can definitely implement.

Naturally Premiere does a better job of interfacing with other Adobe products like AE, and that's certainly an important issue for some people.

But as a standalone tool, I'm still loving Vegas.

I used Vegas for years and never thought I would switch to anything else. Then I took an editing job where I had to run on AVID systems, but still used Vegas at home. After a year of that Adobe released CS6 and i signed up for the cloud services and started using PPro. I'm fully Adobe now and like the interface very much. CS6 is a different beast from previous versions. If you don't need to switch then use what you are comfortable with but if you need the features Adobe offers, it isn't a hard switch to make.

I do find the new PPro interface is more user friendly, (PPro CS5.5 was a confusing mess to me) but to do the same things you do in Vegas Pro with a simple cursor move or right click option requires a keyboard command or knowing the proper on-screen symbol to click. The reasons I am giving PPro another try is because I've heard that it handles/preserves the color space in DSLR video better than any other NLE, and also because of it's integration with AE and the rest of the suite.

I will never completely give up using Vegas. I still like the interface more than any other NLE. It was also the most affordable, intuitive, and powerful video editing application available when I started my own business. There was no way that I could have justified the expense for the Avid I was trained to use back then, and Premiere 5 was clunky and buggy. Vegas reminds me of a virtual film editing bench.

I've always been a big vegas fanboy but my work environment demands I use premier so I can share projects with others. I use the only windows system in the office and the back and forth between my workstation and mac pro's using premier has been seamless. I still use vegas here and there for quick edits, but its not my go-to anymore.

Unless there's something you need, which PP has and Vegas doesn't, there's no reason to switch.

Dynamic Link looks so good though

(AE user as well)

edit: Just read up on Vegas 11 and its bugs. That pretty much just made up my mind to try and switch completely over to Premiere. Excited to use Dynamic Link, but I'll quite miss the audio editing setup of Vegas.

Bugs. What bugs? My updated Vegas 11 has yet to crash. Vegas is still the most stable imho.

Yup, Vegas has always been rock solid for me too, but I know a number of users have been hit with performance problems relating to .NET - there is a standard fix (remove Vegas, fix .NET as per http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspxthen re-install Vegas) which hasn't been amazingly well publicised...

Really? Wow, since I program for .NET I don't know how many different versions I have installed but it's never messed up Vegas.

I been using Premiere since the 90"s. I got a copy of vegas a few years back, thought I would give it a try, but wasn't able to get premiere ways of doing things out of my head. so I stayed with ppcs5.5, which is good for me. Still leary of cs6 because of the new interface and all. I wish they would add the cs6 updates to the cs5.5 interface for those of us who are used to it.

I've never encountered the .NET problem myself, but know several people who have (or at least, the deinstall/fix/reinstall method has fixed it, although possibly .NET is not the central problem but the fix just happens to clean up whatever the actual underlying problem is...)
