Whats Your Reason??

Funny thread Daniel. Perfect example of difference between DVXuser and other forums. It's pretty chill here, but other forums can sometimes driftl into ego battles of who has how many years of experience, who has X amount of credits, etc.

EDIT: HAha. Dan, I only just saw that you mentioned me in that DVinfo thread. :)
 
Yessir, Isaac, I've been impressed by your having worked in that area for quite some while now.

I'll just say that every word I told that fellla was completely sincere, but I am of a dualistic mind, and had it taken place here, my reaction would have been radically different. I don't know that that is necessarilly a good thing on my part, but it's a fact.

For one thing, I really wanted to tell him "Well, DVXusers own Isaac Brody has gone to Africa and seen some amazingly sad things, and he's not all tweaked out into a stick in the mud.....he's certainly tweaked, but in a vastly different direction. For instance, there are some who believe that this (the evil icon...for some reason it's not showing up in the box...I just used it in my last post...maybe there's a quota) icon should be named after him." :grin:

Cemil just needs to decompress. I came back from shooting in Africa feeling pretty depressed at some of the things I'd seen. It was actually good to come here and laugh a little.

But I think how he reacted has nothing to do with the work he did. I think he felt like he was being made fun of, and he pulled out the experience card.
 
Experience card.......that's an interesting observation. That would be a mighty immature insecurity reaction, if so.

Seriously though, there's a general love of filmmaking here. Dropping a vague reference to a film from ten years ago, and having people get it is a very special thing. Everyone is chill, and though we're all different, we're more like minded than you may think.

Hudson, your presence reminds me of yet another reason I like DVXuser....cursing. I dont curse often, but I like the freedom and comfort of knowing that it's ok if I do, from time to time. Even though I've seen Barry Green mention at one time that it's a mark of unprofessionalism, I think cursing can be a beautiful means of organic expression.

And you had to turn it up a notch! I thank you sir, for having the balls to cross the DVinfo line. Assuming the patrol doesnt beat him (Cemil) to it and delete it, I will anxiously await his return and response! If you guys dont mind, save the page if he does, I'm about to go eat with the family and dont want to miss it if it happens!

As for cursing/professionalism, I would much rather professionalism be metered by vision/talent/skill than by some rigid formalism in interaction. No dis to Barry Greens philosophy, I just can't stand the fact that society is so full of weinerism that a significant portion of the population gets all bent out of shape over specific words, and to me, it sucks that a business (or any other) deal can be broken because one of the parties drops a "****" or whatever here and there. That banner about cursing that Jarred created for the 10,000 clip was a hoot. DVXuser really is a lot of fun. Awesome gathering of souls.

Hi.
Thanks to all and no, I won't leave. I actually like being in a forum that mixes dedicated amateurs with those of us who make a living with this stuff. It brings a fresh dimension to our work. I don't mind humour, I'm just not a great fan of sarcasm among people who do not yet know one another well.
All this said, let's move on and get back to work! I'm in the middle of both editing and buying some more equipment so I have a heavy day ;-) Big shoot this week also. I'm filming Mary Robinson, ex-President of Ireland and High Commissioner for Human Rights. I'm also filming my wife's birthday ;-) What's funny, is that I'll probably have more equipment and crew for the Birthday. There, I did it. A feeble attempt at humour.

Seriously even though this thread was slipping... I just have to agree that it's the people that have me addicted. Everyone IS cool. I don't know why other forums don't have the mix, but they don't.

I'm kind of friends with the guys trying to get Freelancer off the ground... but I just don't think that one's ever gonna' happen. And DV.com is just blah for some reason... It doesn't help that the actual forum software SUCKS so bad over there. DVinfo has some decent stuff going, but it's amazing to me the way there are several levels of information over there. Somebody can come along asking "what's the best shotgun" and then some equally inexperienced guy says "the rode videomic" and then you see 10 replies from all new guys who all conclude that mics don't get any better then that... and the thread just DIES like that! I'm sure as hell not gonna' post anything on that pile of crap... I like discussions where people ask questions with an open mind, rather then trolling for the answers they already want to hear.

So anyway... yeah, it's the COWBELL I can't get enough of. Terry where are you?
