What's your computer set up look like?

Re: Show off your edit station

It's the multiple empty liquor bottles in the background that adds the real danger. ;)

Kai I see you got a little something something over there! Nice Set up. Now your Audio mixer...what NLE are you running? I want to get a mixer to use with my FCP but I don't think I can control the audio through an external mixer. What do you use yours for?

Anyone use a standing set-up?
I got the idea from Walter Murch who always edits while standing. It actually seems like a good way to work to me.

I, too, am looking for a new desk for my new set-up. Any suggestions where to look?

Does anyone know where to get those cool desk chairs that you see in use with all the high end edit stations? I believe they had one in a Mac G5 add before. I think they have a mesh backing for the material of the chair....Dang I need to configure my workspace better....

You're referring to the Herman Miller Aeron chair. They're incredibly comfortable and at $700 each, they should be.

I've always wanted to reconfigure my editing station to be standing, but alas, I don't have the room in my current setup. As soon as I can I'm going to convert. Murch makes a very strong argument for working this way. That, and my lower back is killing me! ;D

The mixer is the Digi002 from Digidesign. I use it with ProTools. It also doubles as what puts the audio from Final Cut out of the system to my monitors. You can't "mix" in final cut with it, it basiclly just acts as a big heavy volume knob at that point.

That said, you can't control the internal audio mixing of Final Cut through an external control surface at this point. Would be nice though.

I'm sitting in one right now . . .

But I have no idea where the corporate monolith I work for got it.

Ok, ExFilms, now you've got my attention. That's like edit suite porn. WOW! Look at that system. It's simple and clean. I also like the door with your businesses/website etched on it. Oh, and the angled shelf to the left. That's nice. No wonder you're up late all the time, ...you're playing on your SWEET edit suite.

Ack...I should have posted a disclaimer. That's my edit suite but it is no longer in the office suite. I've recently quit the wedding business. The only reason I had the little office was so the crazy brides and grooms wouldn't come to my home. People would come by daily to check on the status of their wedding video with no concept of business hours. If I didn't answer the door EVERY single time they would freak out. I've actually had a groom climb in through my kitchen window before...I swear...he was a 45 year old Mormon and he scared the hell out of me.

What makes people think it's OK to do that?

A mormon climbing through a window? There's a joke in their some where but it's too late to think of one.

Re: Show off your edit station

I will never understand...there was no explanation. I should also say the only reason I mentioned he was Mormon was because I would have never expected it, Mormons are generally so goody-goody. I actually couldn't comprehend it at the time because it was just so strange. I tried to envision a scenario where my roommate let him in or something, but no...so so strange.
