What's up with the AVCCAM importer for FCP?

Are you asking that to anyone in particular? :) I'd suggest maybe sending a note to Panny tech support or just being patient. These things take a lot longer than we'd like. Which camera are you trying to ingest from? Chances are there are alternatives.

Only a assumption but with FCP 7 discontinued maybe they are reevaluating what direction to go or want to add FCP x support as well.

I would assume that since the FCPX APIs are still kind of a no-show, that it will be a bit longer in coming?

I'm fishing to see if anyone has some news. It's still summer so it might come.

Summer's ending soon.
Are they still biting?

>and for them this would help alot to avoid transcoding.

Don't think that can be done. The transcoding would be done at a difference point in time. With FCP7 I always used ClipWrap.

Hi,

It is finally here:

NEW UTILITY: AVCCAM Importer for Mac (Free download) is now available
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The AVCCAM Importer plug-in component for QuickTime 7 is to enable
direct playing-back of AVCCAM clips without conversion.
(Compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 SnowLeopard only)

In Apple Final Cut Pro 7.0.3, direct import of AVCCAM clips and
realtime preview on a timeline is possible, without conversion.
And to view AVCCAM clips, you just simply need QuickTime player7,
do not need to start up Nonlinear editing system.

great to be able to preview clips directly from the card, and I guess a rough edit without effects could be quickly assembled thanks to this,
would one use this only for preview purposes though? just adding a 3 way CC in FCP7 creates a red unrendered clip,
can I use the importer to speed up my workflow in some way that's not apparent to me? currently use log/transfer to bring clips in as Prores 422,

So far the import works excellent in my fcp 7.

Material starts to behave a bit freakish in the time line when I apply fade in/fade out though.

Also exporting to h.264 quicktime gives some strange results at times while export to Pro Res LT works like charm.

But maybe I do something wrong. Overall a good enhancement.

postskriptum: Big thanks to Panasonic for providing this tool, btw!

Seems to work on Lion too.

Cannot be used to import files (not import from camera archive).

Downloaded it today, unfortunately FCP locks up every time I try to bring in a clip. Tried both Import and just Drag-and-drop. No worky for me yet.
