Whats up with Live View in photo mode...

So the histogram and live view seem to be pretty helpful in video mode (creative manual).

BUT in photo mode (manual, shutter, aperture on the dial) the live view and histogram don't change when I adjust the exposure/shutter/aperature. The image always stays properly exposed, and the histogram never changes (except tuning white when exposure compensation is 0).

Is there anyway when shooting photos, to get the histogram and live view to work like in creative video mode?

press trash and display for shutter preview to see what the photo will look like.

if you want to work like creative vid mode just use creative vid mode to adjust everything then switch to photo to take the shot. I do this a fair bit when I am short on time. this won't teach you to hone your photographic skills in setting shutter and iso according to environment though. You will be back to square one again when you use other traditional dslr's that still use mirrors. I don't think they have preview mode like the gh1 cause my mates with nikons and canons are always surprised when I show them that function.

MR Fanny's reply is correct.
The reason Photo mode is different is because the sensor becomes "live" and the GH1 then uses a mechanical shutter. So to preview what your photo will look like, you have to push Trash and Display to mimic the shutter and aperture setting. The other reason you have to do this is that the aperture needs to be wide open for Auto Focus to work optimally. So the camera keeps the aperture wide open until the moment you press the shutter button. Obviously, the camera doesn't do any of this in Movie Mode. Photo mode and Movie Mode are quite different in these respects.

awesome advice and help guys, really helped me out. Oh, and also using SPOT metering made a BIG difference too!

Anyway to keep the Shutter Speed Effect on long term? It resets back to the old mode each time I take a photo...
