What's the highest quality HD camera?

Acctually for each of their last few films, both used the Sony F950. It records uncompressed 4:4:4 images. Much better for all the VFX processing.

As for highest quality, I would imagine the Viper Filmstream is the highest; though a major pain to work with.

Yeah I've heard about the viper but never heard about anyone using it (aside from Scott Billups, but his site hasnt been updated in ages).

The Panavision Genesis should be pretty sweet too.

I am yet to see some footage from it on a big screen though!

Just about everything is under development right now, with no clear leader in HD. The market is better for the confusion and bashing of formats between studios and networks.

LDK WorldCam is the 720p multi-camera flavor of the day for sitcoms and live HD broadcasts, while Panasonic VariCam and Sony CineAlta struggle for every independent feature, commercial and MOW project that comes along. For studio features originating in digital, I'd put my money on Panavisions Genesis and Arri's D20 - single imagers are simple machines compared to competing multi-imager devices.

Stay tuned for a wild HD ride.

The Genesis footage looked good but is it just me or are those guys kinda cocky? I guess if I had all that equipment I would be too.

As an aside, I respectfully suggest that Rodriguez' contract with SPE might have something to do with his hyper-enthusiasm for HD in general terms and Panavised and non-Panavised CineAlta cameras specifically. For Sony marketing, he makes good sense as the director-cum-low-budget-posterboy for pushing HD into the mainstream. I'm sure I'm not the first to have suggested this. It doesn't change the fact that I aspire to do what he does - utilizing HD instead of traditional film workflow.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I'm a total Panavision hoar, and would trade my left... well, let's just say that I'm keen to lens a show using Genesis / CineAlta!
