What's the Fastest Way To Get P2 Cards To Hard Drive???

Hey everyone,

I've been using the slot in my PowerBook to import the P2 cards from my HVX...but I've just been given a higher budget for production and I was wondering, if I was given unlimited resources, what would the fastest way to get the footage from the card to a harddrive?

...so the editor could get cracking on the footage before we wrap the shoot.

The fastest way is to not even bother going to a hard drive, just edit off the cards. For a smaller project this may be feasible. For a larger project, not necessarily so.

If you want to take the contents to a hard disk in the fastest possible time, use a PCD20 slot reader through firewire 800 to a 5-disk SATA RAID. That should copy at a rate approaching 80 megabytes per second, or about 1 minute for four gigs copied. You could also use a modern Windows laptop with a PCMCIA slot, copying to an external SATA RAID, and you should get comparable speeds.
