What's the downside to 30P

I know it has to be conformed to 29.97 but other than that what are the problems associated with 30p? If I can live with out 24p that is? Which I am willing to try for some projects.

What are the delivery options for 108030p?
 
30P can be delivered in the USA just fine, but it's more problematic for international 50Hz delivery or for film transfer.

US stations can broadcast 30p (it's part of the ATSC specification) or they can embed 30P within a 60i signal, and that can be broadcast or encoded on DVDs or Blu-Ray discs.

International television at 50Hz/25p creates complications, you'd have to find some way to conform or synthesize your 30p footage to be compliant with the 25p frame rate. There are plenty of published techniques on how people are approaching that, some work better than others.

(one artifact-free way to do it would be to tell everyone to act just 20% too fast, and then in post you'd conform your 30p footage to frame-by-frame 24p footage... heh...)
 
haha yeah I'd love to get my actors doing everything 20% faster too. But seriously... I used to an obsessed 23.976/24p guy ... but I actually don't mind the 30P look of this camera. Aside from the obvious reasons discussed I don't see a downside.

You can only use 1/50 shutter speed outside north america.
 
In the majority of the world - 30p can cause problems with flickering lights - as well as being at the wrong frame rate for broadcast.
