What's the Difference Between the Panasonic VW-VBG6PPK 5400mAh and 5800mAh batteries?

Actually, I have two of these batteries for over a year now and they're 5800mAh VW-VBG6...got them when the HMC150 first came out. Says 7.2V 5800mAh on the back, but nothing about "typ" or "min"

would you mind taking a picture of the back and uploading it? or emailing it to me at zak @ sabipictures . com

I have one of each battery, both listed as 5400mah, one came with the camera, the other I bought from B&H. Both work with the camera and charger fine. The one that came with the camera says there is around 3 hours of battery time, the B&H one says over 4 hours of battery time when they are each fully charged.

My spare battery VW-VBG6 has about 4:24 hours when fully charged. The battery that came with the camera shows 4:14 hours so VW-VBG6 has more juice and it's also the larger battery. Just as it should. Strange that the VW-VBG6 shows 5400mAh and the camera battery 5800mAh...

Any news on the batteries?
Is there a link to order an additional battery, just like the one that comes with the camera?

As far as I can determine the only available spare battery is the Panasonic VW-VBG6PPK. The battery which came with the camera is the Panasonic CGA-E/625 and as far as I know Panasonic is not now offering it as a standalone accessory.

So far both have been nearly identical in running time, with the stock AF100 battery having the slight edge. And strangely the stock battery is physically smaller (shorter), but seems heavier than the VBG6PPK, which feels like it has a bit of empty space in its casing.

Hey Jan, any word on this from the factory? I'd prefer my 4 batteries be identical. Is it possible to order CGA-E/625 anywhere?

FWIW, Panasonic's US "Nat'l Sales Manager, Channel Sales - Pro Video" was in B&H today while our video sales associates received in-depth product orientation on the AF100. I asked him to see if he could speed Panasonic's clarification of the current battery conundrum and he said he'd do what he could. He seemed sincere.

Hi Everyone,

As an interim report I would like to share some detail as to what is going on. We have received confirmation that the battery itself has not changed, that it is only the label to conform with a Japanese law regarding labeling on electrical products. The battery is rated at approximately 5800mAh in 25 degree Celsius conditions, and at approximately 5400mAh in 20 degree Celsius.

I still have a few unanswered questions, I will post those once I have it. The battery that is shipped with the camera is not available here. The correct model for ordering in the US is the VW-VBG6PPK and the label should read 5400mAh..

Hope this clarifies a few things.

Best regards,

Jan

That is one of those outstanding questions. I am trying to figure out where the 5800mAh VW-VBG6 batteries are coming from as those shouldn't exist according to the Song and Dance I am getting, because the factory told me that they had to change the label due to the temperature impacting the output in 2008, and that they felt that the 5800 was going to power pretty much the same way as the 5400, but varying according to temperature. So that being true, there shouldn't be any out there that say 5800. Now the factory that built the camera were probably looking at the original sets of batteries that they first designed into the AVCCAM line and those would have 5800 on them, so I sort of understand their mistake. What I don't understand is where these new 5800 VW-VBG6s are coming from. So stay tuned the mystery is only half over.

Best,

Jan
