What's the Difference Between the Panasonic VW-VBG6PPK 5400mAh and 5800mAh batteries?

Camera battery is CGA-E/625 5800mah 39wh 7.2v made in Japan . Not the same as the Panny ones I bought from B&H.

Now that is interesting. The manual says the battery model is VW-VBG6PPK. I wish we could get an answer about this from Jan before my return period with B&H runs out. Maybe (hopefully) on Monday after the holiday.

Yup, hopefully an official answer soon. I just want to make sure I didn't pay any extra than I had to for a 5400 mah battery.

Hi,

There are two batteries out there, some are older and are 5400, and some newer at 5800. If you want the 5800 you need to order VW-VBG6PPK. Sorry I haven't noticed this thread sooner, but have been taking some time off to paint my kitchen, and have a bit of a personal life. ;-)

Hope this helps,

Jan

I'm still not sure how to proceed. I ordered VW-VBG6PPK listed as 5800mah from BH Photo and received 5400mah (see my photo above). And if I search for VW-VBG6PPK on Amazon, I see a listing there from Adorama with photos of the battery and if you look close you can see that also says 5400mah on it, despite the listing claiming 5800mah.

Where can i find this newer 5800mah version of the VW-VBG6PPK battery?

Ditto. How do we confirm that we're going to get the 5800mAh version? Panasonic should have just changed the model # when they changed the mAh.

I see BH Photo has updated their listing for this battery. Doesn't say 5800 anymore.

Is it possible to order the CGA-E/625 anywhere?

I'll call B&H on Monday and ask them about ordering the correct version of the battery that's 5800mAh. Otherwise they should reduce the price of the 5400mAh batteries being that they hold less charge and have probably been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for a couple years not getting used which isn't good for batteries.

My 2 Panasonic batts. ordered from B&H are VW-VBG6PPK but they are rated at 5400mah.
My new AF100 came with a single CGA-E/625 batt. rated at 5800mah.

CGA-E/625 5800mah
VW-VBG6PPK 5400mah

I ordered 2 Panasonic VW-VBG6PPK batts. from B&H last Oct. that were advertised as being 5800mah but are actually 5400mah. They cost $170 each. I would like to exchange them for the rating listed on the Panasonic packaging.

I purchased my extra battery (the one on the left) with Abel Cine Tech NY when I preordered the AF100. Model #VW-VBGPP. All documentation online as well as Abel's invoice says 5800mAh, but the bottom of the battery says 5400mAh. As you can see from the pic, it is also a bit larger than the battery that came with the AF100 (which is charging). How much of a difference in performance between the 2 different batteries are we talking about here?

My AF-100 came with a battery whos model number says "5800 mAh" but the actual batt itself is a 7.2 V 5400 mAh 39Wh. So strange. Here's it is...

By the way, can I use my old 5400 mAh batteries from the DVX100? I have I think 4 or 5 of them.

That's the exact one I received as well from B&H. Swore I had purchased what was listed as a 5800 mah.
FWIW, the product is Panasonic VW-VBG6PPK Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery. I don't know what our product page for this battery said, but right now it says 5400 mAh. I am sorry for the confusion this has obviously caused.

Jan - we can use your help squaring this away as much as the end-users here. If the old 5400 mAh and the new 5800 mAh VW-VBG6PPK have the same Panasonic product code it will be hard to distinguish one from the other in our warehouse. And, the pics of the CGA-E/625 posted here say both 5400 and 5800 mAh which further confuses us, particularly since I don't find any CGA-E/625 in our sales database at all. HELP!

Thanks Henry. It was previously listed as 5800mah (here is a partial screencap from my invoice).

And yours is not the only site to list it as such, I've looked. :) I think we're all wondering if there is in fact a 5800mah version of this battery out there, or if the body of the battery was just mislabeled as 5400mah (and it actually is 5800mah), or if there is in fact a 5800mah battery we can purchase instead, like the one that comes with the AF100.

Even the AF100 pdf manual says this battery is 5800mah.

Henry,
My B&H receipt for the Panasonic VW-VBG6PPK batts. list them as 5800mah but it says 5400mah on the batts.
Should I send you a copy of receipt?

Zak - Thanks. FWIW I want to clear this up as much as anyone. As soon as Jan gives us the real deal I'll let those here who need to know, know. Anyone who bought a 5400 mAh VW-VBG6PPK from us who expected a 5800 mAh battery should have no trouble returning it as long as you haven't carved your initials in it or the like and don't wait until Valentine's Day to do so. :-)

Chris - Thanks. I don't need a copy. If you want to return it, contact customer service with your B&H transaction number.

Henry,

Thanks for checking on this for us and working on taking care of the situation. I purchased 3 of the batteries myself when the B&H website said they wre 5400mAh (it was changed last week sometime to say 5400mAh). Panasonic's website also says the battery is 5800mAh. I'll await to hear from you and/or Jan what's up with the batteries before I decide to return them. Hopefully they can just be exchanged for 5800mAh batteries. Thanks!

I have a feeling this is just poor labeling and the batteries really are 5800mah. take a look at this listing in the AF100 manual and what it says about the CGA-E/625 that comes with the camera. It says 5800mah (typ) and 5400mah (min).

screenshot20110103at822.jpg

And on the VW-VBG6 battery it only lists the "minimum" of 5400mah (min) with no reference for (typ).

Whereas the CGA-E/625 lists both a 5800mah (typ) with a reference to a 5400mah (min).

I have a feeling these are 5800mah (typical) that just aren't labeled as such.
