F35: what's the cheapest EVF that works on the F35

I need to get one asap, so I was thinking I bet I can find a cheap BW old Sony EVF on ebay that'll do the work for a couple hundred dollars. Shooting in Slog and with external monitors could make it not a big deal to have a cheap SD BW evf. I just one to play with one.
So my question here is, what shitty evfs have you guys tried that actually work?

Mac

I am sure that wont work, it's not an HD finder. I believe you need an "HDVF" prefix. That being said, there must be LOADS of HDVF-20As gathering dust - the B&W model. With a little persuasion, I am sure you could get one for sub $1000, possibly a lot less

Actually I remmeber connecting a non Hd bw evf to the f35 and it worked fine. After researching a bit I am almost sure the 801 will work on the f35. The hdv20 is still pretty pricy

In these days of relatively inexpensive high quality EVF options from companies like Zacuto and Blackmagic Design, why would you settle for a B&W SD EVF? Wooden Camera even makes a universal adapter kit for the BMD EVF.

That's interesting, I was sure they didn't. If they do, then probably any Digibeta finder would work. May not work with the F65 though, as there is no SD downconverter built into that camera

It's not that I don't want a good EVF, is that I want to spend less than $100 since this is not for my camera.
If this was for my camera I would get something decent for sure, but not the case.

Feelworld will not work with f35, it can't handle 24psf.

Mac i am also curious about the cheaper sonys, i will try to find one to test next week.

another strategy is to buy f900 with hdvf and resell the camera. They seem to sell at a premium by themselves but dont add huge value to cam package.

Hi Yachacha,
do you have access to some of those old ENG viewfinders? I so, I'll wait before purchasing the 801.

Wish I had seen this weeks ago, I just tossed a pile of old ENG and 4 or 5 inch "studio" viewfinders for the old Sony M7 cameras. They literally went to the scrappers with a pile of other old SD gear. Might have been too old, but they were all 700 line VF's. If I find any stragglers, would these work?

Worth a try at least!

Model DXF-M7, has a right angle 8 pin non-locking DIN connector on it that like this:

Is it what you need (or will it even connect)? I probably still have a service manual and can look up the pinout if you have the info for your camera.

If you think this is worth trying, I'll power up the camera and see if things make images. If it works we can discuss shipping. Price for the VF is free.

That said, pictures of the 801 look to be a more modern connector with more than 8 contacts (like 20), this is what our newer studio cameras use too. No extras for the new cameras, sorry.
