What's the best way to edit over jump cutting in interview footage?

At the end of the day, look at it this way:

Is this a 90-minute movie about interview clips or is it a 2-minute section/sequence here and there?

Because if it's here and there, it really doesn't matter what you do if everything else is great and makes sense. Obviously don't go overboard with a bunch of crazy transitions between each one, but if you choose the flash, dissolve or even the fade - all executed quickly - you will be fine.

Oh okay thanks. I guess I feel it will look weird maybe, or just not use to it, but yes it would be constant throughout, and just a few times.

No mention of audio. Can be white noise, drum roll, and of course cross fades or not and use of wildttack - again thousands of options

Yeah this really seems like an arbitrary stylistic decision dependent on the content. No one size fits all answer.

For long form 60 minutes type interviews, I don't think they ever show a jump cut. For fast-cut little pieces the cut could be any of the above. Trying things out is free

Oh okay thanks. And yes the interviews are not that long.

Well as far as audio goes, I wanted to make it look and feel like the news, and the news doesn't have any audio during their transitions, accept for silent crossfading though. So should I have any sound effects are music ques during the transitions therefore? I can think about that.

Since you are using Premiere, try Morph cut, 4 frames are enough to completely hide the cut if the person you are shooting isn't hyperactive.

Yes - basically, but it's very effective if the created frames are not radically different. Morph cut is one I use all the time. Try it out.

How did I miss this coming out...

Looks like it's the Flow transition in FCPX.

That being said, it wouldn't help me for interviews with a hundred jump cuts, like the one I just edited. There I papered over them with b-roll (as per usual) and only showed the interviewee during long sections of clear, continuous jump cut-free speech

Oh okay. Well if frame interprolation or b-roll are the best to hide jump cuts, then why doesn't the news use them? Why does the news use very obvious transitions in the jump cuts?

News uses B roll, as I said. But like I said, it is more expensive. On a tight budget or schedule, even the news will resort to digital transitions instead. As for frame interpolation, it is new. Well, I just found out about it, which means it could have come out 10 years ago ;) But anyway, if the news uses it, how would you know?

Yeah that's true, if the news used it how would I know :).

Speaking of frame interpolation, I was thinking of using it for slow motion for some shots, since some people use twixtor for it, which gives frame interpolation. How good is it for slow motion though, if anyone knows, since I have read mixed opinions on it?
