Whats the best way to do a rack focus?

I've been playing with this and you need to turn the focus ring almost 360 degrees in order to adjust focus from the foreground to the background. This is kinda long for some shots. Is there another way to do this?

Also, what if you want to rack focus while panning or on a dolly? Is that possible maybe by using AFS setting?

And is there a way to disable the function when your in MF and try to focus and it zooms in?

Thanks

You can disable the auto-zoom-in. Look in the menu for "Focus Assist" and turn it off.

As for rack focusing the kit lens, I've found that tricky too. I've found myself using other lenses (Pentax, in my case) precisely because the focusing is mechanical instead of electronic.

And it really is nice to have that option, now isn't it?

I've had little luck with the kit lens beyond auto features, which is what it was built to do. Real camera lenses are a lot easier to work with. I got my cheap FD's just to give some extra choice and light sensitivity, but most of the time they're a lot more useful. Unless I want autofocus, obviously.
