What's The Best Monitor For Me?

I'm looking into purchasing my first monitor, with a budget of around $200. Not much I know, but I'm only looking for a larger screen to view.

I've been eyeing two key monitors;

Lilliput 569GB 5"
Lilliput 668GL-70N 7"

Now, here's my conundrum

  • While the 5" is cheaper and has an LP-E6 plate, it's relatively small.
  • The 7" on the other hand, is top of the budget, but does not include an LP-E6 plate.
  • I do a lot of travelling but it's frequent the client wants to view playback. (is 5" sufficient?)
  • Is the lack of LP-E6 plate, and requiring different batteries and chargers worth the $60 increase?

On a side note, providing my DSLR screen (60D) does not turn off when an external monitor is attached, I'd ideally like to use this for viewing the filming while the Cam Op uses the DSLR Screen. Are there any sort of limits for HDMI lengths that are optimal for viewing? (Since I don't have a budget for remote viewing)

Thanks!

No. I don't like built-in batteries. I want to have as few battery types to deal with as possible and I want to be able to swap out a battery when it runs out of power.

I prefer standardizing my equipment onto a common battery system. It's not always possible, but for smaller equipment (monitors, small LED lights, camera rig power system) I've standardized on Sony NP batteries.

Lilliput offers 7" monitors with other battery plates. I'd suggest you select one of those.

The only package I can find for the 7" Lilliput with LP-E6 is above my budget.

Scratch that. Just picked up the Lilliput 7" 665GL-70NP/H/Y for £125. Now I just need to know if there is an HDMI length for optimal viewing

The HDMI output on the 665 is a nice feature. There are plenty of short HDMI cables, some with right angle connectors if you need it.
