What's the best compression Program?

[peterlaurie]

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the best program to get for compressing movies. Is it Sorensen Squeeze? What I would prefer is for a program to compress directly from my Final Cut program.

I am not looking for anything expensive just a good solid program.

Check in the Ouput/Compression section

Why aren't you using Compressor?

[peterlaurie]

Because I am using Final Cut Express, and it doesn't have a compressor built into the program

Sorenson Squeeze is pretty good.

Squeeze is excellent, but expensive. At that point you might as well throw a few more bucks in and upgrade to Final Cut Studio and get the Compressor FCP interoperability.

Try Bitvice. It's a good Mac based encoder. Still not what I would call cheap though. http://www.innobits.com/

And on the free side there's FFMpegX, but it takes a lot of encoding knowledge to get decent results.
