FS7: What's the 240fps like?

Just cancelled my C300 MK2 order and will now be getting the FS7.

Considering also getting the XDCA for the 240fps.

What is the quality at 240fps like?

Thanks

Usable if you have enough light. Do not under any circumstances under expose it and then try to fix it in post by pushing the levels. .

you are aware that you still need the XDCA adapter for 2000$ ?

I second the advice about light. For indoors you need a battery of flicker free HMI lights

180fps is nice, but it's not 240fps. For certain things, specifically involving water (or any liquid) there is a pretty dramatic difference between 180 and 240fps.

Be aware that while all my LEDs have color issues, I've had very good success using them to shoot at 120, 180, and 240fps without flicker. You can get really good deals on LEDs right now. Also, if you are doing a lot of high speed work, you might consider Hive lights. I have three of them, and they are exceptional. The Hive lights are full spectrum, and when put side-by-side with a high-end HMI, the Hive is clearly better light.

240 fps is great on my F55, but I stick with 180 fps on the FS7 because it requires a lot more extra hardware than just the XDCA. You're going to have to spend a lot of $$ to record 240 fps from the FS7!

Thanks Doug.

I already have an Odyssey 7Q+ and will be getting the Raw Bundle for it soon anyway.

Apart from the XDCA, what other hardware would I need?

If you have the 7Q + RAW bundle, all you need is the FS7+XDCA.

It's a real shame they require that thing for RAW out. I would have gladly paid extra for RAW out on SDI2... the XDCA makes it just too bulky for gimbals and a lot of other stuff that would be nice to capture 240fps with. I find myself dropping down to 180fps just because I don't want all the extra bulk and weight.

RAW output from the XDCA at 240fps is very, very noisy in the shadows. Unusable if you don't add fill.

Normal speed into the O7Q+ looks stella.

Internal ProRes recording isn't up to professional use on the XDCA, so you absolutely have to use the O7Q.

I'm using this combo on two docos at the moment.

My advice; buyer beware.

I posted this a little while back, but it's relevant so I figured I'd repost it. This is a quick test that I shot with the FS7 + O7Q+ at 240fps.

During my tests, I found that 240p was very usable—you just had to properly control certain things.

Sorry, I just realised, I answered the earlier question wrong, I misread the question thinking it was FS5 not F5/55. The answer should be Yes. Apologies...
