What's "neutral" for detail level?

I'd like to avoid the video look but it still looks to soft. What's the neutral level for detail so I'm not taking anything away from the image resolution? 0? -2?

Are you asking at which point is all artificial edge sharpening disabled? It's way down, maybe -7 is actually "off", but -7 looks to me to be actively blurry. -5 starts to show a little bit of noticeable edge enhancement. But you'll probably find that -5 looks quite soft.

so -7 is what's actually recorded by the CCD? wow!

What do you guys think amkes the best filmic look?

Nancy Schreiber chose -7 for "November". I was a little surprised. Marcus at DVFilm also recommends somewhere around -5.

When we were shooting with the HD100, I was shocked at how much softer the image got when we turned detail "off". The difference between "minimum" and "off" was like night and day.

I've been using -7 for a while now, and now that you mention it I think maybe it's a little too soft, I need to run some comparison tests, but I basically blindly adopted Nancy's settings for my f5 preset.
