whats more important?

yes the ati 3870 is for sure better than the nvidia card. Check out barefeats.com for the proof in the pro apps . Owc is selling the ati www.macsales.com I beleive, it's around 220 bucks, worth the purchase. And yes 8gb of RAM is good, really good. I'm running 6gb at the moment, til I can grab another 4. Did all my eps of JHS on this machine at super sonic speeds!! ^_^

I think im going to take your advice on the card. Can the card handle AE and Motion pretty good?

seems to me that if you play your cards right and sell the canon that you could get both the mac and a scarlet (when it comes out that is).

Spend 5k on the computer, sell the canon (for 2k+?) and spend 5k on the scarlet. best of both worlds. :)

Yes we all know it was the woman not the apple... so get either the computer or a camera, but as soon as you get a woman kiss it all goodbye.

My woman supported my habit for years, and in the end helped me make the habit a profitable business.

But, then again I rarely eat fruit.

Amen to that Jim! Mine has done the same too, enjoying what money I bring in on those rare occasions, grumbling when I need to get something new. Right now the debate is over I need to rebuild my edit box. Her argument is, you don't make that much. Mine is, I can't even cut a demo reel, so I won't be making anything.

im looking at raid hardware and capture cards.. im lost as to what i should be looking for.

4 PCIe slots

1 - graphics card
2 - capture card
3 - raid card
4 - ?

Whats beneficial in having a capture card? or a raid?

Vicious propaganda.

What Eve would have eaten is more likely to have been a pomegranate.

Nobody knows. The bible only speaks about a fruit of the tree - could be also a banana or plum or whatever.

Gen 3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent: 'Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;
Gen 3:3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said: Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.'

Oh and for the record: God lied to adam and eve - but the serpent was right. They did not die when eating the fruits, they became like the gods. :)

Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said: 'Behold, the man is become as one of us,

The RAID card will give you the ability to, among other things, greatly increase the speed of your disk IO - the slowest bottleneck in system performance.

The capture card provides the interface for getting your camera's output into your editing suite.

But I would question the need of a capture card if you have firewire, unless you're capturing uncompressed. Am I wrong about this?

Oh and for the record: God lied to adam and eve - but the serpent was right. They did not die when eating the fruits, they became like the gods. :)

Not exactly. Satan is the Prince of lies. They did become able to understand things and have knowledge of right and wrong just as God, but according to the story Adam and Eve lived long lives but did indeed die:

"By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the ground; for out of it you have been taken;
for dust you are, and to dust you shall return."
-Genesis 3:19

If the passage is taken in context the implication is they weren't supposed to die. Returning to the ground was a punishment. And it was Satan who lied because what's more God-like than immortality? Think about it. But you're right on the apple issue.

I hear this often but it´s wrong.
Adam and Eve where mortal anyway, even before the fruit stunt.

God was in deep sorrow, that they now also may eat the fruit of the "tree of life" and become also imortal. So he threw them out of eden.

Gen 3:22 ...and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever.'

Know your bible :)

I have firewire. But, I was reading about Blackmagic intensity pro capture card. Seems worth the pretty pennies. If im reading this correctly, it aids in real time editing???

what can i put in that 4th slot?

This doesnt deal with the apples, maybe with the life. For those fortunate enough to have children, their 'life' will go on forever.

You don't need it at this stage in the game unless you want to do HDMI in for uncompressed video but do you have room and memory for that? I was assuming you were using firewire, right?

I don't know, I used to teach it and wrote a book about it under a pen name, I think I'm qualified here. The Tree of Life is not the tree of Knowledge. They were forbidden to eat from the tree of knowledge but only forbidden to eat from the "Tree of Life" after committing the sin.

And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: (man had eaten from the tree of knowledge) and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: (this tree was not forbidden until then).

Then it states in verse 3:24:

"So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life."

The passage is speaking of spiritual death. Without knowledge of right and wrong there is no judgment. But since we are like God in the fact that we know right and wrong we can make our own choices in full knowledge. The Bible frequently speaks about life and death not meaning mortal life or death but meaning spiritual life or death. The famous Romans 6:23 states "For the wages of sin is death..." (hence my second film "The Wages of Sin") "...but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Eating from the apple was the first sin and as God stated it bought death. In the spiritual realm death is the penalty for disobeying God whose laws are set in place to protect us from others and vice versa as well as protect us from ourselves. But what is death? In Christianity mortal death is simply a transition, so again I ask what is death? Hell, eternal punishment - eternal life away from God and the suffering thereof, described by Jesus as a lake of fire (whether literal or not the metaphor still means something very bad). This is called the second death, just as having faith in Christ and baptism (a sign of obedience to God) is considered to be new life. Jesus undid what Adam did.

1 Corinthians 15 describes Jesus as the new Adam. (Jesus is God's second begotten son with Adam being the first). Life died because of Adam's sin. By his actions sin entered the world and therefore bought death. Jesus' actions were obedience and bought life, therefore believing on Jesus and obeying God brings life. Again man was not made to die. Had man eaten from the tree of life sinful man would've lived forever. You have to understand the symbolism as opposed to taking it all literally with nothing above a literal understanding. The fruit of the tree of knowledge represents carnal man and sin and his knowledge of right and wrong but doing wrong in the face of that knowledge. Once you eat this fruit (the fruit of disobedience) you are put away from God and away from eternal life represented by the "Tree of Life". Faith and good works done in faith are often referred to as "fruits of the spirit". You gain (or produce) these fruits (of Eternal Life) through faith in Christ and living that faith. :)

i was curious as to what others would do with 8000.

Relax... put the 8K in a CD for 6 months...then you'll have a little extra to spend! Remember, no matter what technology you buy, in 6 months it will be old news.

I would have a lot to say about that but this is not the place, I think we are hijacking this tread Nat.

You can PM me if you want or make a new thread in the Caffee.

No offence, but I think I get me an apple now :)
